Ending process doesn't dodge queue?

I am not quite sure if this belongs in this category, but here goes. I got into queue, was in champ select, when I got a phone call form my relatives who I hadn't spoken to in a while. A lot of times when I try to exit the game by closing the client traditionally (clicking the x in the corner and saying I want to dodge), my computer freezes indefinitely. This time, I tried to dodge by closing the process (Lolclient.exe) , which I assumed would have the same effect, since I still closed the client. However, when I logged back in 18 minutes later, I had never dodged. League had carried on as if I was just AFK or had DCed, leading to me reconnecting, and my team wasting 20 minutes in a 4 v 5.

Not sure if this is supposed to happen, and if it is, does anyone know an alternate way to dodge besides logging out?
