Tier Demoted without Warning?

One of my close friends got demoted from Platinum 5 to Gold 1 without any warning whatsoever (no, it was not because of inactivity)

When Riot implemented the fact that now it was possible to drop a Tier if the MMR got one full tier below (Gold V playing at Silver V level, and so on) - they told us we were going to get a PROPER warning beforehand when we were about to reach that threshold.

However, I've been seeing reports about people getting demoted without ANY warning, and now my friend just confirmed it to me.

I mean he was winning like 13-15 LP per win (even 17), so it's not like his LP gains were camped by the MMR.

I'm at Gold V atm and I don't feel like playing ranked anymore because I'm not going to risk losing my Victorious skin because getting demoted out of the blue.

I do think that Ranked system should encourage people to keep playing, but if the demotion warnings are not working, how are we suppsoed to trust the system?

the trolls/afk's systems are getting more tight as of late but the Tier demotion is still a thing, and what's worse, it's not even clsoe to work as promised.

If we don't have a way to know how our MMR is doing, we're basically playing blindly at the edge of a cliff and hoping for the best, that is specially true at V divisions. our only "hint" is the LP gains, but you can't expect to fall when you are still earning like 13-15 LP per win.

Is there anyone else who can confirm the no-warning Tier demotions? - this is actually a very delicate problem that has been reported since the begining on Season 4, but Riot seems to be unaware still.

I'd like to have a Rioter word on the subject.

It appears like I'm having exactly the same problem your friend has experienced.

A few weeks ago, I got promoted to Platinum V. I've had no intention of trying for the Diamond tier this season, as the finale is getting closer and I don't nearly have enough time to fight my way through another five divisions. I was glad to see myself finally manage my way to Plat. Afterwards, I only played a few games per week, just for fun. I wasn't too fortunate and I lost like 5 times in a row, out of which at least 2-3 were lost due to my co-players having connection issues or simply quitting the game. In a couple of days, I even won a few games, only to lose the LP again back to 0. Again, few days later, I lost four times in a row, and pop!, demoted to Gold I. As a matter of fact, this last game's loss was pretty much caused by our Vi, who got angry at another player for picking Sion (right after revamp), saying he would go afk and picking {{summoner:10}} + summoner 6 as his summoner spells. After the game started, he went on a "feeding frenzy", running from the pool right into the opponents' turrets. When I checked my profile after receiving the demotion pop-up, there was a small red warning triangle, saying that I've been demoted due to inactivity.

I'm not trying to whine or put the blame on anyone else, even though most of these games I was not the primary cause of our loss. It's a teamwork dependant game and the solo queue is a bit of a lottery when it comes to teamwork. I am okay with the demotion, I optimistically hope to be able to get promoted back to Platinum again till the season ends. On the other hand, maybe I'd have dodged a game in which a player is being toxic before the game even started (and when they pick Revive/Ghost as junglers) - if I had received a warning by Riot beforehands. The reasoning behind the demotion also feels out of place - it says 'inactivity', and even though I haven't been as active as a month or two ago, I've played every few days, usually more than 1 game.

Long story short, I've had the same issue - getting demoted from Platinum to Gold without any warning - and I'd like to see a word on this from Riot as well.

I had same problem. But i had low MMR. I had normal mmr like 19LP per win. I was stucked between gold 5 and gold 4 for one or two moth (I won the gold 4 promo like 10 times) One time, after the promo, i had a loosing streak like 5 games without dropping into gold 5) After that I allways just got +13LP per win and -23 per loose. (just because of the 5 games loosing streak) i made like 40 games before i got to gold 5 with 0 LP again. The last few games my mmr was getting better (+15 LP). But then i lost one game and gone down to 0 LP. After my next loose i wasn instantly Silver 1. I didn't get any notifications or a warning in my profile. Its very stupid, that you get instantly demoted just because you mmr gets low because of an... lets call it bug. I had many S in my lost games (I dont want to say its my teammates fault but sometimes.. you know what i mean), but this doesnt seem to effect the mmr because even after a 7 game lossing streak with 5 S nad S+ i still got just 13LP.

And if you think about it: If i would have entered gold 5 not after 5 looses with 0 LP but directly, i wouldnt have that bad mmr, which means with all my 40 games (counting wins and looses) after that, i would NOT have been gold 5 with 0 LP. AND EVEN IF I WOULD HAVE THE GOLD 5 0 LP, I wouldnt drop INSTANTLY, BECAUSE OF THE BETTER MMR.

I am very titled, because this is the first season I am gold, and i was never before gold 5 0 LP, but the first time i am, i get instantly demoted.

Would be nice if a riotler answeres to your/our posts, but without an copy paste asnwer.
