Mastery Score

How is mastery score calculated?? I wonder because I have all of my mastery points on one champion and my score is lower than my friend who has his spread out on different champions...yet I know for a a fact i have more total points than him.

the "total" is calculated by counting the level of mastery, not the amount of points themselves. so 6 lvl1 > 1 lvl5
