Laucher / Patcher does not appear

When starting the client for the first time after installing, it does it's usual loading animation with the League of Legends logo and the loading bar below it.

But the loading bar stops about halfway, the logo disappears, and when you look in the task manager to see if the league programs were still there, they would close out.

What do I have to do to solve this, because I am fixing this issue for my friend.

She runs a Windows 8 OS.

I was also having a similar issue when attempting to run the game on a Windows 8 machine. For me, though, I got the following kernel error:

"PVP.net Patcher Kernel has stopped working"

When I attempted to debug, the just-in-time debugger said:

"An unhandled win32 exception occurred in rads_user_kernel.exe [17836]."

Not sure if it's exactly the same issue as you're experiencing, but it might be related regardless. My solution was to run the patcher as administrator (turns out it was some sort of security access violation). Figured I'd throw this info here, in case you hadn't tried that yet.
