Shaco boxes stopping gromp (camps??) from spawning

I placed some Shaco boxes where gromp spawns (blue side) in the little corner. Gromp spawned after blue and after it spawned it removed my two boxes. Furthermore, it didn't even give me full level 2. It was as if I had a killed it without the starting item.
