Interaction between Tracker's Knife and Yellow Trinket

For whatever reason, when I have bought Tracker's Knife while having the Yellow Trinket, the X out of 3 wards (X/3) on the Yellow Trinket becomes X out of a random number. I don't have a screen shot, but I thought I'd share. This happened both times while playing Nocturne.
