(Help with ingame issue) Disconnected from game, went to rejoin but got put into a new queue

I was playing Jax JG in a ranked game. Everything was going well, but I lost connectivity to the game. I switch from ethernet to WiFi and get connectivity back. However, when I go back to the client to rejoin my previous game, I'm met with the normal starting screen for the client with no option to rejoin my previous game. I was hoping that if I try to jump into queue again, it'd throw me into my previous ongoing game, but now i'm starting a seperate game, while my previous one is going on.

Is this heard of before?

I submitted a bug report too, will I get penalized for leaving game?

I think this usually happens when the game ends. This can happen either by the game normally ending, or everyone from the game being dropped. Are you sure the game was ongoing, as in you had a premade in the same game also?
