My duo partner/friend ends up in champ select while I end up at main menu?

So me and my friend duod up for some normals, half the time the accept/decline option wouldn't come up. When it finally did I hit accept. It said waiting for other players for about 30 seconds after I hit accept and nothing happened until I ended up at the main menu. I was asking him what it was showing on his side and it said I was with him in the champ select. There's so many problems with the client right now since the last patch.
