Game crashes as soon as we load into Summoner's Rift

Hi all,

So loaded league today thinking I'd play a match between classes. The game loads and just as we land in Summoner's Rift everything freezes. My mouse stops moving, there's no sound, no nothing. I can't tab out or open a task manager so I hard reset the computer and try re-loading the game. Sadly the team had reset it since I DC'd. No problem, I think, I'll just load another game! To my dismay the same thing happens, once the game loads everything freezes but this time there's a terrible noise, like a grating sound. 3rd time's the charm, this time I load a custom match and it freezes again with the same terrible noise. so at this point I'm wondering.... Is this happening to anyone else? is this a computer problem? or a league problem?

Adding on: Just opened the client to see what patch I'm on and got a message saying that the "Update has failed," "An unspecified error occurred" and to "check the logs for more information." I guess this means I'm still in 6.16 and can't patch 6.17? How do I fix this. [zombie-brand-facepalm]
