Thresh's chain auto jumps to champs not in range

aram game tonight running from enemy team 1 a was thresh whom thru his chain which ended well behind me .... then out of nowhere it jumps and hooks my champ..... it was soo not a hit ...it had reached it length and stop so it shouldnt have jumped....
