Won but lost LP

Today I was calmly playing League, when I had to leave for 5 min. After I came back, I was greeted by the 500ping, u are AFK thingy. I reconnected, and the game went on for about 40 more minutes. My team wasnt at its best state in the game, but I didnt let them down and WON the game. After I got to the statistics and saw that I lost 17 lp although I won ( http://prntscr.com/lccsa9 ). I talked with one of the live 'support' and told me it is totally normal to get the same treatment as a player who would remain AFK and let his/her/etc... team lose. I dont think it was the same as if I let my team lose, then I would accept the -17 or even -34 LP as punishment. But as I won, why do I get -17? Wouldnt it be logical to get at least 0? LeaverBuster system doesnt check the game results. Is it OK?

You have a great point at the end of your paragraph (reference: "wouldn't it be logical to get at least 0?")

I may not be the best to state my opinion on this situation but I feel like it might be better to agree with you on that point. Overall it wasn't very fair to lose the lp because of an internet issue :(. Do a speed test going forwards before you queue up so you can participate more

It wasnt the internet, I had to go for 5 minutes, I admit that its not nice towards the team, and overall, but family>games. PS: I never leave intententionally, this was a must, and even came back and won.[slayer-jinx-catface]

Honestly, it doesn't give any incentive to rejoin. You could not join, likely receive leaverbuster, and lose 17 LP, or you could join, waste time trying to win the game, and still lose the same things. If it was such a matter of "undue stress" on your teammates, then I agree, punishments for losing are necessary, but if you come back and win the game, at least a "You have received no LP for this game" would be nice.

It's certainly a touchy subject. I think there's a lot of debate that could go into this discussion. I personally don't think it's unfair because regardless of the outcome of the game, you've put undue stress onto your team.

Not only is playing 4v5 not an ideal experience, the fact that the game dragged onto 55 minutes (often times, games where there is a good portion of it being 4v5 get quite lengthy because a comeback has to be made) means that I'm probably taxed by the end of it. What if the game could've been finished earlier? You being gone for 5 minutes may not have been the only reason, but it surely played a factor.

'Well why did would I bother to come back and play the game?'

Because you're not a toxic player and you truly have good intentions for your team. You've already spoiled the game for the same reason I mentioned above. Your responsibility as a teammate (in my perspective) is to at least help your team not get an auto-loss.

'Well, can I at least avoid LP loss if we win?'

Do you really want to encourage any form of rage quitting? I understand that you had some real life family stuff going on but if we believe you, we have to believe everyone. Allowing people who rage quit to mitigate their LP loss if they can secure a win is going to encourage more people to rage quit and come back to the game.

'But isn't it good to encourage players to come back and help their team?'

From an LP perspective sure. But I don't want to deal with people leaving the game (even if only temporarily) more often. That's not quality gameplay. Besides, your odds of winning when a teammate is gone for a while and come back to play aren't as high at that point anyways.

Consider it payment for the 5 minutes of hell you put your team through while you were AFK.
