The case that I experienced is specific to Fiora's Q and Akali while invisible within her shroud.
When fiora dashes in, if akali is within range of the q (despite being invisible) will take the q. I have yet to do testing with other champions with invisibility mechanics (rengar, khazix, shaco, and twitch come to mind), but I believe fiora should be required to "see" someone she is using her q on.

USAstar1 votesIN THE GOLD OLD DAYS I LANE WITH AKALI AS FIORA, WHEN WE ARE BOTH VERY LOW ON HEALTH WHEN SHE THROWS SMOKE. I QUICKLY ONE CLICK TIAMAT AND AKALI DIES IN HER SMOKE. THAT IS DUEL BETWEEN HEROES. NOTHING LIKE NOW THE SAD AND BIZARRE THINGS THEY TURNED IN TO.
