Issue after spectating

So I had just finished spectating a game that two of my friends were playing in, when I was invited to join them. in the lobby I noticed it was odd that I could only see one of the two other players, but they assured me they were both there, and we began our queue. Once the queue popped and we were in the champ select screen, it showed the champion I was given (this was an ARAM) but it also showed me as spectating, and gave a button to "quit spectating". With no other options available to me, I pressed the quit spectating button, and was given a 15 minute queue dodge penalty. Screencap of the champ select screen included.
