If you have homeguard boots, the speed buff is applied to your character. Once the buff has been applied you can sell the boots and buy an item to replace them. You will still have the homeguard speed buff and can run very quickly out of base just as if you had the boots. Of course this would have to be repeated each time you go back.

I know this is a long time ago, but what I was saying is that you can do it. I was able to sell my homeguards, buy another item and then I could run out of the base super fast still. The buff wasn't getting removed when selling the item even though it should have been getting removed.
