Hotkeys not functioning

When game starts my keys used for hotkeys are not functional. I can use them to type in the chat so I know the keys themselves are working, however I cannot use them when I am back on the game screen. Sometimes if I leave and reconnect it works again, but now it is increasingly not working and I find myself reconnecting several times to no avail.
