Why do "ghost games" still exist

I currently am waiting for around 2 hours to pass in order to play a game. the game lobby timer reached zero and did nothing, so i quit and re logged in. there was no reconnect button so i assumed the game was just quit too since it was basically bots. unfortunately now its saying im still in a game with no way to reconnect. did a full repair, still didn't work. luckily i was trying to use the practice tool when this happened. I looked up on the problem and it turns out this bug has been happening for about three years. the only solution i could find, (from the same place i found info on the bug its self: https://boards.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support-en/sbeFsWzA-game-crashedstuck-on-reconnectghost-gamefirewall-error-please-look-here) was to wait 2 hours and try every once in a while until its over. how is a bug like this still in the game three years later. maybe its time for a new game client.

(yes, i do dare say that even after the pain that the new one has caused)
