BUG?: Aatrox Passive Revive taking away assists?

I don't have in-game footage, but playing against an Aatrox in one of my last few games, I noticed that my teammates or myself wasn't receiving any assist credit if said player helped kill Aatrox and trigger passive, but landed no damage on revive? Was that always the case or bug?
