Blitzcrank pull nullified by ezreal arcane shift.

DukeMosby1··6 votes·4,964 views

I was playing blitzcrank support against an ezreal. There is a delay between casting and the teleportation, unlike with flash. If he casts it but does not finish it, it will not be interupted by blitzcranks q, and he will be transported to the desired location, be stunned momentarily, but be otherwise unharmed, other than the damage.

He is not pulled in.

This is working as intended. :)

Vistha Kai8 votes

Wrong.

It's a bug that nobody at Riot ever decided to fix.

Just like Ahri's Charm being able to stop dashes or Darius' Apprehend being able to pull people after they got out of the range were a thing for over 4 years.

They fixed both your examples. And as a guy who loves to play Blitz every now and again, it may be frustrating to play against but it is certainly intended from everything I can tell.

I disagree that it was intended. It makes no logical sense to occur. It's a ridiculous mechanic that necessarily gives an Ezreal player an advantage. Given his current level of popularity, it's actually an ideal time to fix this long-ignored issue.

To the point - I'm practically certain that Riot did not release Ezreal with the thought that his shift would work this way. It was something that just happened to occur due to how things were programmed, and over time Riot decided that they "liked it". Perhaps because a lot of ADCs hate on Blitzcrank and leaving them with a champion that could effectively ignore his main ability was a better solution than removing or unfairly nerfing the champion. Who knows. It seems very unlikely that Riot made Ezreal with this mechanic "intended" though. Much more likely that it was an accident that they've just happened to support.

Exactly like Ahri's charm. It was an accident, as should now be obvious since they "fixed" it. They only fixed it though, because people started complaining about how strong Ahri was. In actuality, the mechanic was fine and was something pretty neat and unique about her and that's probably why it stuck for so long.

Just my 2 cents at least. This is not intended, it's just something Riot has chosen to accept as part of normal gameplay. It's no different than saying that AFKs are intended, they aren't - but the fact that you don't get loss prevented when you have one is normal and acceptable gameplay (as you still get a win when enemies have one, and introducing loss prevented or mercy on AFKs would introduce a slew of other problems - although I don't want to thread hijack so I won't get further in to that).

Sorry to spoil your fun time but Riot decides what is intended, if they say it is, it is. End of story

Remember when they said that Jhin was unaffected by AS auras because it was intended? Then the very next patch notes it was like "Woops we goofed, fixed a bug with Jhin blah blah blah AS reducing damage properly now"

DrCyanide2 votes

As I remember that, the day after they said he was unaffected by AS auras the Rioter that posted that posted that they misunderstood the question, thinking that someone was asking for AS auras to actually effect his rate of fire.

lol every cry for a nerf on everything but lee sin disagrees

my freind has a thing for under dogs thresh was the only none under dog that got nerfed on his support roster raka reworked ultimately nerfed. sona nerfed.

hell the only reason he started playing lee sin was cuase of the reworks on everything just wish he told me them all but from how he sounded everytime he touched a champion a rework or nerfs followed. he played for two years that ended at the start of this last season.

it is intended most likely because if it worked the way you think it should, a slower reaction on arcane shift would actually be rewarded compared to a faster one where you get hooked at the same time. ezreal's e isn't stopped by anything other than death once it's cast. you're just gonna have to get over it lol

ValyrianBlade1 votes

I'd say just the opposite.

Currently the speed that results in this mechanic requires the ezreal player casting before the hook hits. If it were an instant cast without the reaction, he'd outright dodge the hook (however, the blitz player would have the ability to predict the blink and still hit the hook, which in my opinion is desirable counterplay).

A slower speed would result in him being hooked, and unable to cast the ability while being dragged in. He could blink after the hook (potentially dodging the knockup) but would not be able to exit the hook displacement unless he first used cleanse/QSS before applying his blink (as one can currently do with flash).

Sounds awful

Bait out e or otherwise accept that ezreal is a decent counter pick to blitz

It have a long animation but can't interuppted like lux ult

I literally said it "they were a thing for over 4 years".

Plus it's the same case of "intended" mechanic Ahri and Darius had... until Riot decided those are bugs and need fixing.

FearEngineer3 votes

Intended.

Meaning... it works the way it works and we have no intention of addressing it, which isn't the same really.

If something was worked on to intentionally look that buggy and downright janky af that's disappointing.

LongHair Fox1 votes

The alternative of blitz pulling half way then ez blinking and then blitz pulling him all the way will also look janky af.

League has always worked so that the last movement issued on a champion takes priority. You can see this when draven uses stand aside and a trist mid air, or ezreal blinking out of hooks. There is really no exception to this rule and it is applied to all interactions.

If riot had to "fix" ez/blitz crank they need to "fix" all interactions which would count among hundreds.

Kinda wish it was nerfed sadly because in a way its strong...or atleast increase the cd on it because say I go to hook an ezreal..he can easily get out of everything u could even do to him.... tho id still prefer it to instantly activate after he reaches the blitz position ofc yeah ull maby get hit by ulti but let it bypass it. # support the godhand :3 # freelo ramblings of a salty blitz player jk jk ;)

Anomander3 votes

Trist can do the same thing...... it is just the way the skill are prioritized in the coding.

Sniper 02 votes

Not a bug.... unfortunately blinks basically cancel out his pull. So just more to make him the safest poke adc in the game... z.z

Does the same thing happen with Ahri's ult? I used to play a lot of Ahri but I don't remember ever being able to cancel out Blitzcrank's grabs like Ezreal can.

Difference between a dash, (Ahri Ult) and a blink, (Ezreal E,) She cannot, though, the other 2 dashes still exist...

Vistha Kai2 votes

It's the cast time that makes Ezreal and Tristana's abilities immune to CC, which by all means should be considered a bug. It's just like you can only stop Lux's ult by killing her.

In case of Ahri it would be nigh impossible to utilize it, because the cast time - assuming her ult has cast time to begin with - is way too short if not instant.

Honestly, they should just rid of all cast times and turn them into channels. Just like they "bug fixed" Ahri's Charm stopping dashes.

Mirkhail1 votes

It's actual working as intended, this spell aren't supposed to be cancelled and that's why they have long animation, They code is working right if riot want or don't want this to be the case is another topic

None of this is anyhow related.

  1. You don't know if it's working "as intended". You only know Riot thinks it's "fine as it is". Not exactly the same thing.
  2. Animation length has nothing to do with whenever the spell is suppose to be cancelled by CC or not. Karthus, Tahm Kench, etc. Also numerous near-instant cast spells also can't be cancelled.
Mirkhail1 votes

I think they are not channeled ability, the only have long cast time and animation and for what i understand when a cast is started they action can't best stopped so if the game is coded like that then the game is working, maybe is misunderstanding some part but for i can understand the game work that way.

Vistha Kai1 votes

I assume english isn't your primary language(or even secondary) since you completely missed the point of my comment.

Karthus' ult, Tahm Kench's ult, Rek'Sai's ult etc. are channels. Silences, stuns, fears, knock-abouts, charms, taunts will stop them and in case of Tahm and Rek also taking damage does it.

There is no practical reason for Ezreal and Lux's ults to not be channels. They should be used at long range and casting them in melee range should be punishable. It's not.

On the other hand there is Ezreal's Arcane Shift. If we break it down, this is what happens visually: Ezreal creates a portal in front of himself, then proceeds to jump into it and get teleported. The time he begins creating a portal and jumping into it is the "cast time". Except if somebody knocks him out of the jump and away from the portal, why should he still get through it?

Thematically, it's plain stupid. Gameplay-wise, it's plain stupid too.

There are a lot of things that can do this. Just more of the hidden stuff you have to play hundreds of games to find/master.

Why are people down voting this thread? The guy had a question about an annoying "mechanic" that is probably was a bug that is now accepted as part of a kit. No need to downvote though. The guy/gal was legitimately curious.

not to mention once enough people cry minus lee sin nerfs happen

Ez was a constant high ban for me because it just dumb amount of CC you can shrug off with arcane shift like Poppy wall slam Morgs snare blitz & Nauts pulls anything that does have a immediate hard CC even then prick still jumps

Quackas1 votes

Honestly, as a Blitzcrank main this bugged me back in S2 before I improved and learned better.

I now prefer this interaction! Why you ask? Well because Ez thinks he can escape me... MWAHAHAHAHA.

Such a false sense of security makes Ez the best ADC 2 play against as Blitz. For you see, you can just flash or W up to Ez and power fist. What will Ez do to that? Well obviously arcane shift away. WOOPS now its on c/d and you are in pull range...

You can also do it with Trist if you time it right.
