Im not sure if it is a bug or not but when you Q on to the baron you actually Q in to the middle of him, Irelia then like slides out of the baron, while that is happening she doesnt auto attack and it really slows her down while engaging the baron.
That happens with most gap-closers, honestly.
Try Jax's Q or Wukong's E some time.
I would also like to add that Irelia seems to glitch out when you use your skills, some times when you do a skill combo she will not start to auto attack when it is done, even if you have already engaged the monster or champion previously to the combo.....she just kinda sits there until you click the target again. (and yes ive made sure auto attack was turned on)
same for Vilemaw.

It is intentional I believe. A lop of gap closers have a similar effect. It limits someone's ability to dash towards Baron to steal it.
