Kayn ult being put on cooldown without going off

I've noticed in the few games i've played a Kayn that sometimes if you attempt to escape from multiple enemies using your ult, it just goes on cooldown sometimes and doesn't move you to your target.

At approximately 6 seconds I use my ult in an attempt to jump onto Sivir to escape behind their team but it does nowhere and just puts my ult on CD
