Was playing a ranked solo queue game today, and after the 3rd or 4th ban, most of the free champions this week (renekton, taric, brand, etc) disappeared off my champion list when I was about to select one. The only ones that remained were the ones I owned (mundo and leona). This happened 2 games in a row.
Yikes. Pretty sure you can only play with champions you actually own in ranked. The idea is that if you don't own a champ, you probably don't know them very well and should only be playing in custom or normal games to learn.

Dude this isn't a bug. you are NOT ALLOWED free champions in ranked games in fear of people playing champs they aren't as proficient in...

Riot removed all free to play champions from solo q that you do not own. They have given their reasons for it which one of the biggest is..
For a player to not just play a champion for the first time in a rank game. This decreases the possibility of trolls by players. This is also why I believe 20 champions are required to be owned before you can play a rank game.
