Loading screen freezes at 5% and I can't choose units in general

It regularly happens to me after having hours of break (since you know I can't play this game 24/7) that the loading screen gets stuck at 5%. (under normal condition it goes right to 80% and 10 sec later to 100) It doesn't do anything until one minute later when the bar reaches 11 or 12% and another whole minute, until the game properly starts, but I'm screwed cause I begin the game with clear disadvantages (starts during the battle of 2-1, can't choose champion, no items, 12 hp loss, less time to think about the comp, etc.)

Even worse, I can't even reconnect to the game unlike in the previous patch.

On another note, I never had the chance to choose the unit in the first carousel to begin with, because my screen always freezed at the start, but in previous patches I could at least pick from the remaining three or four champs. Now the game loads with the entire carousel skipped and the camera is still locked for few seconds on the empty carousel map which greatly adds to my annoyance.

I don't really have this problem on other modes (unless occasional bad connection is considered as one). so I don't really get what's the issue here. I don't really care that I start with a random champs I don't need, but the loading screen freeze genuinely scares me, because I've already lost countless LPs because of this.
