Thief's gloves glitch

I've had this happen to me multiple times. I have 2 level 2 Ornn (for example) and 2 level 1 Ornn, I'm one away from getting a level 3 Ornn. A level 2 Ornn on the board has Thief's gloves equipped, I find a final Ornn at the carousel with whatever item on him. They combine and the carousel item is taking onto the Ornn with the Thief's gloves, never to be used again...
