Spatula item still giving origin to a unit after selling

Earlier in the game, during a carousel, another player got a Zed with the spatula item giving the Glacial origin. Later on, I bought a Zed and placed it expecting the Electric bonus only, but it gave me the 6 glacial bonus as well, showing Zed as a contributing unit to the origin, despite not having the spatula item on it anymore.

I'm assuming the original player sold his carousel Zed which still retained his spatula origin despite not having the item anymore, and I inadvertently got it afterwards.
