Akali Five-Point Strike DMG Bug

I just got out of a game where I had my level 2 Garen (with Phantom Dancer/Morellos) get hit for almost 1400 damage by an Akali (lvl 1 or 2) with just a Spear of Shojin. I can't imagine that's supposed to happen.
