Certain units that usually have melee range, in this case graves, can have their range increased with items, putting 2 of the item on him gives something like 900 range, the only problem is, he just stands in the back and shoots nothingness, his damage becomes 0 cuz all his hits miss

This is only the case for Graves because of his ability. If you had stacked rapidfirecannon on any other Melee unit, they would have functionally become ranged. This is something that is especially good on Volibear for example.
