Start game during second round of creeps

So before patch 9.19, I would still miss first carousel but at least I would start the game during the first round of creeps, giving me time to buy more champions/sell/ etc. Now, I start the game in the middle of the second round of creeps which eliminates my chance to buy champions for that round which, depending on the champion I was randomly assigned, could mean that those creeps kill my one randomly assigned champion. So not only do I never have a choice at what item I get, but I now have a chance of losing to creeps and missing out on even more items. This makes the game pretty much unplayable. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this.
