How does joining a gaming community actually work?

Hello!

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but since most people recruiting for gaming communities post here and I'm sure a lot of people have experience, I was just wondering how joining a gaming community worked?

I mean most posts seem to just put their TS address on, but I was thinking just popping in would be pretty awkward and would go something like:

Me: "....hi?" Person 1: "OMG I am such a good adc did you see that double kill?" Person 2: "Yea mate that play you made all by yourself was really impressive, you deserve all the credit!" Support: "...-IUltiedBothOfThemAndLockedThemDownButYouKnowWhateverFloatsYourBoat-..." Me: "Err... I guess I won't bother you guys..."

Disconnects

Person X: "Did any of you guys hear something?" All: Naa don't think so."

Or do they have a general lobby with no one in and you can just join into one of their Game specific channels, then introduce youself?

Usually someone is there and is like Hi welcome to bla bla bla, were you interested in joining us bla bla bla, pop down a channel(get moved down) follow usual interview, aka they tell you rules you say you're nice and no rager. they tell you info on events and things they do. You then are free to try and mingle in other channels.

D: or you have to add them on skype then they you log onto ts and then it starts.

Thirdly, a greeter waits for when you log in, greeter says hi :D welcomes you and either A) explains to you what you need to know or sends you to someone else who can do that.

um D: very rough and lazy coverage of how it goes

Ahh I guess that makes more sense of the whole "join mid-game" thing. Do they usually have a greeter 24/7 there though? That would seem really tiredsome heh

Well most people have a welcome lobby, if not all of em, then i assume the higher up gets notified and come up to look at you and talk.

xD I'm saying there's a greeter just because i recently found out one of the communites i joined has greeters xD

Depending on the gaming community the staff/owner/greeter has a addon which notifies them when a guest enters the server. The guest is greeted and shown around and introduced to some people depending what the guest is looking for. Some gaming communities have "recruitment" processes which make you register at websites. There are even some communities out there that have a process for you to even become a member. They make their members post "x" amount of times on their forums.. Play "X" number of games with certain people in the community.

As for your question on if they have a greeter 24/7 There are some servers like AG that have a welcome bot to give you the member tag so you will be able to move around freely.

Yeah the funny thing is that every community wants to get you in after all that is the reason they exist rightisbut they are all different and of course has different ways of handling things, but they are all run by human beings and it won't ever be perfect :( some places are too strict, others too laid back, all depends on your personal needs. personally i've never understood applications though...

Usually there is a greeter or a recruiter on the Teamspeak to give you the run down of things and make sure you understand how their community works. I had my recruiters introduce them formally to the members. After that they would help you find a game or play with you and form then on the community is up to you.

Honestly a community is just a group of people with similar interests. These micro-communities within League see an opportunity to either gather a specific group of people (hey we have tournaments and you should come play!) or include others to their circle for the sake of something new (hey we're a casual community looking for friends / hang out!). Others just want to find people to have in common with (I think I saw a community that likes to bake).

Sometimes you get physical benefits for being in a community (prizes) or you find more meaningful experiences (new friends).

Being a community leader was fun. My reason for being a leader wasn't very tangible in that I just ended up as one through a series of events. Being in a community gives you a sense of belonging and a connection you wouldn't otherwise find by just playing League alone. If you want to meet more people who play league and are interested in discovering new insights then I would recommend you join one.
