Is anyone staying for League's lore & stories than the actual game?

Let's face it, League currently as a game is just shit right now. Top lane is reserved for tanks or whoever is busted (as well as Hashinshin ranting on about it non-stop nowadays), games still feel like stomps/snowballs, damage is through the roof, ADCs continue to feel dominant and manage to abuse almost every kind of item they can get their hands on, the list goes on and Gameplay boards are more than happy to bitch about it (though to provide how to fix said issues, not so much).

But god dammit, the lore and world building of League is just getting better every time! Seriously, this last lore update for Noxus I feel was the best so far. It went from thee stereotypical bad guy nation of Runeterra to a somewhat logical and bit more human society. Still not entirely the best with the whole conquest thing but still, nevertheless.

I've been more interested in how the world of League is updated to this actual functioning world where there isn't a stupid League to keep things in balance. I love the redesigns of these locations, the styles and cultural looks these places have. I'd seriously love to have an entirely new game only to explore the world of League, either like an MMO like people have suggested or even a single player game. Hell, I'd settle for a RPG game that I could actually get my friends to play. The possibility is there and undoubtedly some may have made some D&D adaptations of League in their campaigns, so why not Riot create their own? They've already made a board game.

Basically, when it comes down to it, I love the story and world of League more than the game right now. The game just isn't enjoyable for me as it was in the past and is still continuing to do so. But the lore of League I feel is the opposite and is really the only thing keeping me attached to anything about this game, even if I just stop playing the game altogether.

Me in a nutshell, at this point. League's got its fair share of problems at the moment. I haven't given up on it -- I still play it with friends -- but I haven't found myself motivated to play it as much over other games that also vie for my time.

The lore, art, and sound is fantastic. It's keeping me interested, and will get me to try new champions.

The game state isn't fantastic right now, but it's not a waste of time. When that happens, I'll probably leave.

I'm with you on that. I am just waiting for a series of lorebooks or something. A cohesive universe with an actual map and timeline and cosmology would be nice. But lore right now is the only reason I stick around.

I prefered the old lore, so not even that.

OnanThaMan2/6/2018, 8:33:52 PM5 votes

Nope, If I want stories and lore I'll go read something that won't get changed possibly a few years down the road.

I don’t really play the game anymore but i do follow the lore

maybe emotional connection to specific characters but Riot will probably retcon the actual lore and removework my favorite champs one day so not even sure that's worth it

You are criticising the old lore without knowing the difference between "League" and "Institute of War", so I'm hardly surprised you find this lore better, as you simply never fucking cared about the old.

Before champions not only had a place, but also interacted in ways that'd be conventionally hard if not impossible and the world was tied together, not because of summoners being omnipotent beings, but because major factions decided for a truce. Yes, the IoW was a fucking truce organisation made with a consent of all parties involved and was maintained by said consent. Omnipotent? Yeah, tell me how they barely managed to pull one stunt with the help of a time-travelling wizard that happens to be a champion and levelled up a good chunk of land in the process of trying to stop destruction.

But you wouldn't understand, because having a number of texts with more words and completely detached stories that nobody would ever tie together if they weren't told so is better.

I knew the old one by heart. I don't care about the new lore, because it's a testament of Riot's writing team incompetence.

I play the game because the game is fun and I read the lore because I like that too. Lore's been much slower to update than the game itself though.

For me it's mainly the champion art designs (Ahri ,Kayn, Rakan, Xayah etc) and also the lore. I play league since 2009 but i have to PVP in the game since 2014, however i play 1 game per second day against bots for daily victory and now i have 200.000 IP and own all champions just by playing against bots.

This is why mobas nowadays give the opportunity to earn all pvp rewards by playing with bots, because in pve it has a lot less toxicity

Warlord Dienekes2/6/2018, 6:46:20 PM2 votes

Not really. I still enjoy the game, despite its issues. Also my friends play.

I preferred the old lore. The new is good, but it's a different game altogether when you read it. Their team has been a miss on the interesting things about champions:

From Swain, they got that he was a Tyrant. Not that he was a summoner of demonic birds, if not one.

to Karma, they took that she was a politician, removed her spinning Mantras and made her a martial artist who fought to keep balance. Her old Lore would have had a balance to her fighting.

to Trundle, troll wanting to be a leader, take away his disease and make him muscular. His appeal was that he was skinny and that the disease became his power.

The original premises had so much potential unique, and they're expanding on the least interesting parts.

I don't even read them anymore. The last good one was Gangplank.

NocturnalSheild2/6/2018, 9:34:02 PM2 votes

Nope. I miss summoners.

Could of easily had the same stories AND had a leauge of super mages.

IvernBramblefoot2/6/2018, 6:30:50 PM2 votes

the lore in this game is fucking stupid to teh extreme, so no.

"DID YOU KNOW THAT JAX'S FAVORITE FOOD IS EGGS, AND THEY COME FROM A SPECIFIC CARAVANSARY IN SOME SHURIMA CITY"

nope i didn't know that because why would I ever give a shit about the lore in this dumb fucking game? why would anyone?

Cetri2/6/2018, 9:54:09 PM2 votes

Yeah, I've mainly stuck around because I find the lore to be very intriguing. I don't really play much except the occasional game with a friend. Although I do enjoy the game well enough when I do play it, I'm just not as invested in it as I am with the lore.

This is so me. I really only keep in touch in with this game to see when the Freljord lore stuff will be updated as well as a few choice lore threads(LB, Syndra, champions I enjoy basically), other than that, I straight up haven't even so much as opened the client in months.

Darius Strada2/6/2018, 11:57:15 PM2 votes

pretty much, yes

Carach Angren2/9/2018, 6:43:07 PM1 votes

I'm staying for the skins sadly, I'm a very visual guy, I love to have some candies for my eyes

But I also still enjoy the game, when I play the champs I like the most, and muteall every game of course

xelaker2/6/2018, 9:43:55 PM1 votes

The story is aight, but if I was here for the story alone I'd be gone pretty fast since you'd only get a few pages of content at best every few weeks or so....

Segius2/6/2018, 11:44:25 PM1 votes

I like new league though....

aidanable2/7/2018, 4:18:17 AM1 votes

That is so true for me, I don't even play hardly ever. (unless with friends) I Literally only browse the League Universe and read the short stories and such, they are each so good.

Honestly just make a movie already!

robi27042/7/2018, 9:44:41 AM1 votes

Yes! I enjoy reading league's stories so much, but I just cannot play the game anymore. The games last for 30 or 50 mins and they are very boring and by the time they end my ass hurts from sitting. I just want more stories to read, honestly.

Tesla Effect2/7/2018, 1:46:03 PM1 votes

Thats my primary reason for staying. The MOBA game is so shallow and boring, but the story attached to its champions and the world created for them keep me up....well to some point. If I have to wait additional 10 years to get a map of Runeterra or a timeline, I am out (Ill give it 5 years).

RainXBlade2/9/2018, 4:39:09 PM1 votes

I play League only for the fandom, lore and fanfiction to be honest. The competitive scene doesn't interest me.

And also because this guy exists. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/3/39/Yasuo_OriginalSkin.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170615224748
