Faces of League: Pax East Day 1
PAX is all about the people and their stories.
There’s nothing better than hearing about how players got to the event, who they came with, and how they’re connected around the game, from the group of friends that fly out every year to the son introducing his dad to the community for the first time.
Here are a few stories from players we met on Day 1:
“When I first started playing, I tried to run around and kill everyone in every game. But then I started learning about the different roles you had to play, like being a tank and peeling for the AD Carry, or when to teamfight. I figured since my Dad likes strategy he should learn how to play too.”
“In our first game Sam kept saying ‘Do your combos, do your combos!’ And I was just mashing the keys. I was killing...what do they call them, minions? I was 0/1/0, but we won!”
Sam and Ralph - Chelmsford, MA
“League in Ohio is really collaborative. We do LANs all the time, we hang out on voicechat. League feels like that across the whole Midwest, we’re a part of a greater community.
It’s not just about your campus or your friend group, you can make friends anywhere and I think that’s a huge part of gaming.”
Stelanie - Oxford, OH
"About two weeks before the event I saw the announcement for Taric’s new splash art. I immediately dropped my cosplay plans for PAX to do Taric.
It was also the first time I’ve ever had to pack something to be shipped on an airplane and that was scary. Nothing broke, but I’m missing a prong on my mace. I had to cut it off so it would fit in the bag but I forgot to pack it. So I just angle it in all of the pictures to make it look like they’re all there.
I didn’t sleep for a few days. It’s not perfect, but I put a lot of effort into it."
Stephen - Dallas, TX
