The Lunar Revel 2018 event is now live until February 19, 2018, at 11:59 PM PT. There are a few new things to cover before we get into the crafting tables:

Revel Tokens

Win a matchmade game to complete the “Arrival of the Demigods” mission, which will grant you the Year of the Dog Icon and access to the mission lines. You do NOT need to equip a Lunar Revel icon. Complete missions to earn Revel Tokens, which can be exchanged for loot rewards.

You can earn up to 96 Revel Tokens through missions. That’s enough for a Golden Revel Token, so if you’ve got your eye on one of the new Golden Chromas, you’ll want to save up.

Golden Chromas

Golden Chromas require the corresponding base skin to use and each one costs one Golden Revel Token. Golden Chromas can be crafted for Lunar Wraith Caitlyn, Guqin Sona, Dragonwing Corki, Warring Kingdoms Katarina, Warring Kingdoms Garen, and Dragonblade Riven. If you forge the Golden Chroma when you do NOT have the corresponding skin, you will obtain the icon and chroma, but the chroma will not be usable until you’ve got the skin.

You can also exchange one Golden Revel Token for a Revel Orb, but we only included that option so you’d have an outlet for them if you really didn’t want a Golden Chroma. If you want to get a Revel Orb without spending RP, and you aren’t interested in the Golden Chromas, then you’re better off crafting Revel Orbs for 44 Revel Tokens each.

Loading Screen Borders

Individual borders for Lunar Empress Lux, Lunar Guardian Nasus, and Lunar Guardian Warwick can be obtained through loot for 64 Revel Tokens, or through the border bundles in the store. Each border comes with a matching icon and grants the border for one skin (not all three).

Revel Grab Bag

The Revel Grab Bag contains five skin shards, one from every skin tier up to (and including) Legendary. That’s a 520, a 750, a 975, a 1350 (Epic), and an 1820 (Legendary). The Revel Grab Bag is included in the Legendary Lunar Revel Loot Bundle, although it may also drop from a Revel Orb.

Revel Orb

The Revel Orb contains one skin shard, with a chance to contain a Revel Grab Bag, Golden Revel Token, Gemstone, or Gemstone Skin Shard. To protect from bad luck, it guarantees a 975+ shard every 3 rolls.

Revel Skin Shard

The Revel Skin Shard contains one Lunar Revel Skin Shard. It does not include Lunar Guardian Nasus, Lunar Guardian Warwick, or Lunar Empress Lux.

tl;dr: Riot is no longer about player experience first and is now just a money grabbing company. They have never done anything this bad and I've been playing since early beta (user 2352).

Here is how big of a money grab (and how needlessly complicated) this entire event is, especially compared to every single past event. It is just INSANE.

To actually get all exclusice content: 6 Golden Chromas (Caitlyn, Sona, Corki, Katarina, Garen, Riven), the 3 Borders (Lux, Nasus, Warwick), the exclusive event Ruby Chroma (Lux, Nasus, Warwick), the exclusive wards / icons it would cost you: more than 12935 RP (around 18185 RP due to lack of Silver Token availability). That's over $121 in RP at the most efficient RP cost level.

Breakdown: Free = 1 Gold Chroma = 96 Reveal Tokens (missions) 2845 RP = Lux Border Bundle 2650 RP = Nasus Border Bundle 2650 RP = Warwick Border Bundle 1500 RP = Puppy Nasus Bundle (1 Gold + 12 Silver) 1500 RP = Puppy Warwick Bundle (1 Gold + 12 Silver) 540 RP = Puppy Nasus Icon (1 Gold) 1250 RP = Puppy Warwick Icon (no tokens, but Gemstone)

That gives you 4 Golden Chromas and 24 Silver Tokens left over. Meaning you still need 168 Silver Tokens to get the remaining Golden Chromas. There's no easy way to get the remaining Silver Tokens as the other bundles include so much other stuff (as you can't just buy Silver Tokens by themselves). The most cost effective way to get the remaining Tokens is to buy the "Hextech Chest + 4 Reveal Tokens" (125 RP) for a total of 5250 RP.

Note: This doesn't even account for the skins with the Golden Chromas (as they are extra), just the Chromas themselves.

EDIT: I've been following Riot Games since their start. They were one of the first to do F2P in North America and they did it right. They have been successful over the years because they treat their players fairly and respectfully. They did what others didn't. This flies in the face of that and why it feels so bad. Riot has a very specific brand about being focused on the player experience, and this damages that brand.

Here's a simple fix that is fair and a better player experience: Sell the stuff individually.

Instead of bundling everything together, can we just buy what we want? Why can't I just buy the chromas for 290 RP (like every other chroma)? The icons for 250 RP (or even the border + icon for 425 RP, like they did before)? The wards for 640 RP (like every other ward)? That would be fair and something people could definitely rally behind.

Are you kidding lol the skins and chromes are COSMETIC items that have nothing to do with actual gameplay. The fact that they're even letting you get SOME of the things for free is good. You're literally complaining that you can't get premium features for free wtf if you want cool looking stuff you can pay for it. Don't be a cheap freeloader who expects everything to available for free. (If you're one of those 'collector' type people then you have even less to complain about since you should have known you were going to have to spend a lot of money on the game anyways)

I never said they should be free. The problem I'm having is that they are making it very difficult to obtain all the exclusive content that will not come out again.

Remember when Riot had Limited Edition skins that they promised would never come back? There was such an uproar for years that they eventually brought them back (much to my dismay as I specifically bought them thinking they would never come back). How is this any different? They are creating exclusive cosmetics that they are charging an insane amount for in comparison to all previous events.

They're exclusive, meaning no one's going to be able to get them again (or atleast for a few years till Riot rereleases it). They've been free from doing missions before (borders specifically) and the first time borders were introduced they were given to you for no rp extra when you bought the skin.

Then the star guardians happened and suddenly you had to pay 175rp for a border (not including the icon - icon price I understand). Something that was previously free and collectable became a price tag.

Even though Championship Ashes Chroma you had to pay for it, it came with a mission pass which was cheaper and more affordable in a few week period (time for people to get enough from their paycheck) unlike this mess. For me, and for others - a person who liked to grab the free borders and collectibles (As with icons - they added history to my account and a longevity on League I'd like to show off) finding that now suddenly the trend of them costing more continues but now it's 121+ bucks for everything? I'd be upset too - imagine if they did this for every event, increasing the price with each one.

Yes, there's more to grab so its higher priced, yes there are people who think the same way as you do - that these are cosmetics, why ask for them to be able to be gained from spending time for free? But when it was previously easier to get it outright free or cheaper it makes you think.

Just going to state this, the extra pay was even in 2nd release of project skins. Which this was a few years back, not recent at all compared to when star guardians came out.

I think that's kind of the point. As a free to play company the way they can opt in to getting money back on their time investment is give you MORE things to want to spend money on. Giving away things for free is only recent with hextech chests and didn't exist before.

So, now it's like there are way more options for customizing champs, icons, emotes, wards etc, but each individual thing costs RP/$ because that's how they keep the Co. running. I don't know if each thing is appropriately priced, but then the better argument is that they should just bring down the price not give more free stuff.

Anyways, good read, I was in the middle of trying to tabulate the numbers myself then noticed you already did it lol. Ty.

I would agree with you actually. I do think the bundles are a bad idea. For example, pairing the ward so you can ONLY get it with the bundle kind of sucks. The other bundles though can be bought together or separately and are not required. For example, there are multiple versions of bundles for each skin depending on whether you want the chromas or not and the icon border, and if you don't you can get any of those chromas except the red one in the store.

Overall though I agree. Take an upvote!

Edit: I mean it's not like I don't support them at all, just a bit annoyed that it's locked behind needing to buy mission passes and what not.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to pay too much to get the exclusive stuff, but I guess it won't be turning out that way. Anyway, here's the math for people who want to get all exclusives and for people who want to see how outrageous Taric the cost is.

2650+2650+2845(border with ruby chroma packs) +1500+1500(puppies) +540 (puppy Nasus icon) =11685 RP

Gold from bundles: 1(free) + 1(puppy WW bundle) + 1(puppy Nasus bundle) +1 (puppy Nasus icon) = 4

silver: 12 + 12 (puppies) = 24

orbs: 3+3 (puppies) = 6

Somehow, you gotta make up 168 silver for those other 2 chromas.

Usually you can buy the things you are missing, but this time, it is not affordable or reasonable for anyone. I'd rather have the mission passes than have to pay 10x the price to get the required materials.

At least let us buy the gold tokens.

NOTE: I did not add puppy Warwick icon as it is just an icon with a gemstone, and I don't see any value in it when everything else is so expensive.

Side note: For all of you who want exclusives but are turned away by the price like me, think about the skins you already have, and then look at the golden chroma champ skins. Do you really need them? In my case, I will be using legendaries for Cait, Corki, and riven. I will use DJ Sona. I will use project Kat with border. The only golden chroma skin I would use is Garen.

EDIT: I don't mind giving Riot money (my bank statement sure knows this), the point is the needless bundling for exclusive content. To get all 6 Golden Chromas (since you can't buy them individually) you'd have to spend $121 buying 42 loot boxes just to get enough Silver Tokens to afford them. When Riot said "you will be able to get them all" that didn't sound like it would be some complex bundling scam, but that you could either earn them or just pay for them flat out. Same story with the Lux, Nasus, Warwick borders and Ruby chroma. They are bundled in such a way you can't buy them individually. Cable companies do this with TV channels and get hated on constantly for it. Why is it not okay for cable companies to do it but it is okay for video game companies to do it? Both are "optional" content.

That's what people have been saying about justifying Riot's actions on reddit.

To me this just screams they aren't focused on the player experience first. They just want to create a convoluted system that bundles weird stuff together so you have to spend extra RP on useless things you don't want.

I miss the days when it was "want this? then you just buy it" instead of "want this? now buy 5 other bundles that contain tons of things you don't want and it is the only way to get it."

Why did the bundle prices change so drastically from what they were on the PBE? I can understand an increase from what they were, but some of these increased in over three times the price. That's pretty ridiculous honestly.

It might just be me but not being able to buy the ward skins by themselves for an increased price like maybe 950 RP or something without the event loot is kinda annoying. 1500 RP for a ward isn't really worth it in my opinion, even with all the stuff you get. I just want the ward skin, not all the extra stuff with it. I get they wanted to make some stuff exclusive, but this is just annoying me.

Very disappointed with the bundles. Yet another event that has awesome content, but a shame it is all locked behind useless stuff no one wants to buy. I was really looking forward to getting both ward skins, but you can forget about me paying 2.5x the normal price.

And bumping the price of an icon up to 1250rp by putting it in a bundle with a gemstone? I have 23 of these and don't know what to do with them because you hardly produce any content for gemstones.

The max I can get is 96 tokens w/o spending $$$, buying a boarder w/ icon is 64 leaving me with 32, I cant really get anything useful with 32 tokens [zombie-nunu-bummed]

I got like 10 keys, why cant we buy some chests, its not like the percentage of getting a skin shard is high to begin with item 3070

I mean getting a free gold chroma or a boarder is worth it if I dont plan on spending money but its just the extra stuff we can buy. Since im here anyways, is anyone else also triggered by these chest you get when you level up. You basically get champion chest up till lvl 99, why not skins maybe at every 10 levels or something? BE will stack up eventually once you have every champ and the shards don't stop coming so..

Since this is becoming a rant thread, yeah, I'm not liking a lot of decisions Riot's been making lately. The level up capsules are okay, I guess, but even if we are supposedly getting the same amount of IP/BE as before, it feels kind of lame to get Master Yi/Nunu/Xin Zhao/90 BE every capsule.

To make matters worse, I have half a dozen extra crates in my inventory without keys to open them, but every time I actually get a key I either get another Chest and Key (?) or just a big champion shard. I've gotten a few ward skins and emotes from crates and special level-up capsules, but it's gotten ridiculously difficult to get Cosmetic/Orange Essence without buying Hextech items.

But has anyone taken in consideration how long does it take to do the skins that riot presents to us? how many people work behind the screen? The amount of time and creativity? You think RIOT only works for free? Guys, the skins are an additional feature of the game... IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU BETTER (EA IM TALKING TO YOU), or AFFECT YOUR GAMEPLAY. RIOT is giving you a chance to earn a skin or some extra features. RIOT at least is updating their gameplay and making sure we have fun the best way possible, they might not make everybody happy. But enjoy a FREE game with sometimes FREE benefits.

You really going to ask how long it task to make a chroma? Pretty sure that one was discussed along time ago.

Somehow it has gotten even worse, LIMITED TIME ONLY Chroma's now really riot?

It would be different if you bundled them for a reasonable price or allow player to be able to unlock ALL of them if they bought a quest past.

But they actually locked them behind buying RNG Loot based box bundles, which is even worse.

It's like telling someone they have to bake their own cake for their birthday but than they also have to pay 20$ for a slice, that comes with side of canned mushrooms.

All these different orbs and tokens and golden tokens and it's just too much. That I'm considering doing a bunch of math to figure out if I can get all the stuff I want kinda tells me it's not a user-friendly system.

So if I spend 64 revel tokens for he Lux icon (I don't really care for the skin so the border is irrelevent), I'm left with 32 tokens which gives me...key fragments and blue essence. Cool. At least make it so I can get maybe an orb with it or something.

seriously everyone lay off riot. how does everyone here expect the game to still be fun and playable if they cant make any profit off of it? just make a choice of what things you want to buy with the event currency and buy it. i wouldnt mind them placing a lot more missions so we coule buy everything but they do need to make profit try to understand and just enjoy the game they let us play for free < and dont say its not free because i can say theyve made it a lot easier to get new champs and to lvl up

Also I hate that it doesn't give you enough to get an icon+border combo (for Warwick, Nasus, or Lux) AND a Revel Orb. I get that it's free, but still what do I do with the rests of my freaking revel tokens? I guess Key Frags, since the game wants to hand them out as scarcely as a starving village hands out bread rations.
