Engineer the hextech hammer with 10 gemstones, found as random drops in Hextech Chests. Like other Gemstone skins, Hextech Poppy may also drop as a skin shard.

Larriet1 votesI started after it was introduced (Hextech Annie, Dreadnova Darius, and Soulstealer Vayne were already in the game when I started) and I've spent 8 and currently have 8. Just bad luck, man, I'm sorry. For what it's worth, there is "bad luck" protection, so you're guaranteed to get them within a certain amount of "tries" (I don't know how many "tries" there are in a Hextech chest, but most even capsules have 3 "tries" so I'm guessing it's the same).

On one hand I think it's cool when a new Mythic skin comes out because it's a super prestigious thing, especially if you main one of those champs. On the other hand, the fact it's so rare can also make it feel like you have no chance of getting it. So I can get why some people really like it and some people don't.

They are busting out Hextech skins as if people are getting them so regularly, but I know so many people whom have barely seen a Gemstone, let alone received 10
VIOLENCEofACTION7 votesThey seem very rare out of the normal chests. On my main account, which I have spent thousands of dollars on since 2012 (a lot less these days), I have gotten a ton of them. The specialty chests they release every so often are loaded with them.
However, on my alt account, I have 3. I play the accounts about the same amount of time, but I have spent very little on my alt account. Money = Gemstones.
500CM1 votesYou get a gemstone every 50 levels after lv150. Also you get a free gem every 30 chests or so, obviously you arent getting many "S" grades
Sgt Pepper 4203 votesOr - MAYBE he isn't playing tons of different champions. If you want to be successful in ranked, most people advise keeping your play-pool limited in size. I get plenty of S grades in games. But I only play a few champs most of the time, so the S grade games don't get chests. And even if you get an S every 30 chests, that is less than 2 per year... 52 chests per year is MAX and is less than 30*2. CAN you get gemstones for free? yes. but they are rarer for peeps who don't pay a lot to open weird specialty chests.
TweedleDurp1 votesThis is definitely part of my problem, in ranked I'm generally a OTP, but I also play lots of ARAMs and have owned all champs for a couple years now. And in response to Hextech Hastur, I get my fair share of S's... thanks. Even if I never got an S, you can earn chests any time any person on your team gets one, provided you haven't yet earned one while playing that champion, so at worst, I should only earn 20% fewer chests than the average player.
NA Speed1 votesI get your frustration, but riot has to make money somehow. If they put a gemstone in your inventory after every S, then they would make nothing off of these beautiful mythic skins.

Cearka1 votesthey're usually higher drop out of the event boxes they do sometimes. also these skins can technically be crafted (although very rare. unless you have every skin and you auto craft it)
BugsBunny9311 votesExcept, out of the 75+ chests I've opened, I've never once, gotten a gemstone. Seems legit riot. Remove chests giving you champion shards as well. Leveling up does that just fine. Rework this system please.

Censored Sona1 votesThat's impossible given that the hextech chests have a bad luck protection. Your 50th chest will always have a gemstone if you haven't gotten one in the last 49.
GhostMocha7 votesI love Poppy. I play her a lot. I'm very happy to see her get a new skin. I have 7 gemstones. I have only ever had 7 gemstones. I got all of them spending something stupid like $200 on the april fools event this year. I have not gotten a gemstone since then. Keep in mind that those had a 1.5x chance of dropping gemstones.
Seriously, I love these skins, but Riot cannot keep making them gemstone exclusive if they keep making them at this rate. I know one person who put probably 2000 hours after hextech crafting was introduced and is still waiting for enough gemstones for soulstealer vayne. People have gifted her tons of boxes, including me.
Riot should really reconsider some things about the gemstones. The rest of the crafting system is pretty great, actually. However, there's no doubting that the gemstones are more than flawed.

NA Speed2 votesRiot can add or remove whatever they want from the game. Cosmetics don't hurt your experience. Event exclusive skins have been around for ages. This, not being an event exclusive skin is just another expensive cosmetic. They aren't as nice as the ultimate skins, but their value comes in rarity. The point isn't for everyone to have them, the point is to feel great and excited once you finally get those 10 gemstones for a RARE skin.

I've amassed about 25+ gemstones since they launched the loot system. I've got annie, poppy, and the ward skin. Keep up hope! If you don't try, you'll never get it. (event chests give them out like crazy)

You must have loads of cash, those always cost around 15$, idk if I want to spend anymore On this game.

I'm very unhappy that all these awesome skins come out that i'll never be able to get to because of some randomly generated mess that has been created to further shame me in the community. Its pretty aweful becuase i would love to show my riot pride with awesome skins like these.**Please Riot, look into the gemstone system. **

Djinator032 votesAlso Remember though, with new rewards, you can get gemstones for free, it just takes time, through earned chests and guaranteed one every 50 levels at and after level 150, and every 25 levels at and after level 400. So in all, to get the gemstones, it is very much grind and luck intensive. In my year and a half of playing, ive gotten 3 gemstones, currently at level 96. So i mean, some people just have a lot of luck. My friend has spent thousands of dollars on league (over 3k)(compared to my measly maybe 200) over the years hes been playing, and he opens up duplicates of ultimate skins that he has, all from chests, to date hes gotten (roughly) 3 Spirit Guard Udyr, 5 Pulsefire Ezreals, and 2 Elementalist Lux. Another friend of mine also got hextech annie from a chest, and my cousin just bought dreadnova darius for 10 gemstones. I, to date, have not gotten a single Ultimate or Mythic (gemstone) skin or skin shard. So yeah, I'm Really Unlucky.

WhoopThatTrick2 votesi never knew gemstones existed. the poppy skin comes out and i already know i need it. craft it with 10 gemstones dint seem as impossible as i now understand it to be. it can be expensive and disappointing buying crates hoping for gems. my accounts pretty old, and i dont think ive ever seen one. just a picture with 0 on it:(

NA Speed2 votesFor everyone who has come down here to discuss how mean Riot is for adding another hextech exclusive item, I just want you to hear this. I have hunted gemstones every time they have events that increase the chance to get them. With that, I have had much success. I'm not saying it has been cheap to get them, but much better than buying 40 crates and opening them only to get 20 skins I already own. MY ADVICE: whenever they offer a bundle that includes 1x Gemstone, GET IT! It has added up like cray cray for me. I've gotten enough for the hextech annie, poppy, and ward skins. I'm not saying it'll happen overnight, but if you grab one bundle every event for the next couple months, you'll have yourself a brand new, shiny, gemstone exclusive skin.
