URF sails off with Party IP in its wake

It’s been an intense fortnight, and we’re still finding new ways to break--we mean expertly min-max--Bard’s insane cooldowns, not to mention the terrorcopter of a war horse that still managed to trample through our nightmares despite his hobbled heels.

We’re grateful for everyone who participated in URF mode, from the oldest League vets to the newest players just getting started during these wild two weekends. As another thank you for playing along with our joke and cannon-balling back into the ultra-rapid waters, we’re hosting a Party IP Weekend from April 17th at 12:01 AM PDT to April 19th at 11:59 PM PDT. Team up with your friends and earn guaranteed bonus IP when you play matchmade games. The more friends you queue with, the more bonus IP you earn. Here’s the chart:

But that does mean this is the end of URF for now; the manatee is swimming home to the Featured Game Mode team’s lab, and we’ll dive into all of the feedback you’ve given us over the last fourteen days.

We know, we know. It’s too soon. It just came back. But the ultra-rapid awesomeness is best savored in small servings. The original run of URF taught us a fantastic lesson about the novelty of game modes over time and the cost of ongoing maintenance. Featured Gameplay Modes taper off in popularity sharply after a short period of time.

Despite breaking our golden rule of not touching Featured Gameplay Modes post-launch, our on-the-run tweaks to keep URF treading water balance-wise the first time around still saw the same declining engagement and burnout. That doesn’t mean players don’t have a blast before they fade away. However, being designed as a can of whoop-ass in the first place ultimately means that the flame burns twice as bright and half as long.

This would be awesome! I loved playing URF, and they could easily mix a few other game modes in. All random URF would be phenomenal, taking away the largest complaint I have seen: the repetitive champ select. I also wish Riot would show some of the population statistics for URF in comparison to the permanent game modes (normal, Dominion, and ARAM) when using the excuse of "declining engagement and burnout" to justify keeping LoL less fun.

I think the fact that the losing team spends 2/3 of the game waiting to respawn is a bigger problem than repetitive champ select. Bring revive back for URF.

1."Ultra Rapid Fridays" will be very hard to manage, because there are different time zones in America. Therefore, people will be playing at different times, and this might hold them back from the community interacting all at once.

2."Featured Gameplay Modes taper off in popularity sharply after a short period of time." URF might be very fun, but it does get unpopular fast if it is available for a long time. In the 10 URF games I've played, I saw the same champions get banned, and picked. The teams aren't original. We see the same champions dominate in the games. This "sameness" will make you tired of it eventually.

**3.**URF started out as an April Fools Joke, with the champion Urf. Because of the community's positive feedback, it has become a gamemode now. So, stop trashing Riot, just because they took out Urf for now. It is very likely it will come back. Riot says, "...and we’ll dive into all of the feedback you’ve given us over the last fourteen days." They wouldn't look at the feedback if they won't open Urf again. So be patient. And Stop Trashing Riot.

No, 400% because its bonus ip. With 5 members thats +300% IP, and is added to the initial 100% of IP you get from that game. 100%+300%=400%

LoL is like the stable, moderately attractive girl you hang out with. or guy. either applies. then their hot af friend shows up for two weeks, sweeping you away in this crazy whirlwind, and suddenly you're SO BORED with the first girl. she's nice and all, but this girl is so exciting! but you stick around with that girl in shame, waiting for her to bring back her hot friend. that's basically my opinion on what URF is.

I say do away with Dominion and replace it with URF....I mean lets be honest, how many people ACTUALLY play Dominion compared to ANY OTHER game mode out there, especially URF. Come one Riot, make your fans' dreams come true!

Honestly the post mentions that URF is best savored in small servings but I feel like it actually is the opposite. People get in the mood to play it way more often than that but since it's only here for a short time people spam it non-stop and then burn themselves out on it. If you were to lets say tell us it's going to be permanent ahead of time I think you'd see a burst of play then a steady flow in it. A fun mode where people don't take it as serious and can learn champs in a faster more interesting way.

I agree 100%. I know I put off other things just so I could cram more URF in during its short stay. I wouldn't dream of touching a normal or ranked game while it was here.

I think Riot needs more customization for "Custom", and have some URF like settings. It'd be perfect for practicing the game and it'd be interesting to see what else the community would come up with.

Damn. I got banned the day before U.R.F was released, and unbanned the day after U.R.F ends. The timing is so painful.

Riot these party IP boost offers are amazing! ty so much for making them, but can you please make something else that we can buy with IP please? I already bought all the champions available in store, and all the runes and rune pages that i want. im sitting on a lot of ip with nothing else to buy :( of course i'll use some of it on the new champion once she/ he gets released, but besides that i cant buy anything with my ip TT_TT

wow, im now having URF withdrawls, i played a normal game and fed 3/8... and I HATED IT, the waiting, the feeding, the 5 min game that really last 20(if not longer cause teamates). im the type of feeder that feeds because i want to play the game fully, so i end up dying alot cause i go in all the time. now its back to the grind, the 9-5 XP now i dont feel like playing so much anymore gg. make URF at least in training mode where you can practice your flash and skill shot ranges, etc. I cant go back to real life now... for every criticism i have about the game i love about urf, really.. this game has lost its grip due to the slow pace of it. Please, i dont want to feed, i just want to play the fast pace game i love so much. and about the "burn out". i played nothing but urf, its my style. and with out it, its just stale and dry, and slow.. X( i cant cry enough over the end of URF, since its my main. now feels like im on nurf, anyways, bye LoL, i got homework, and youre just so boring as you are.

I met a kid in high school who thought that .5 + .5 = .1 and I asked if he was serious and he said yes... I was just... so astounded at him. I asked him if he would like to correct himself and he said "No no .5 and .5 together make .1" and I informed him that he just cut 9 tenths of it off xD HE STILL DIDN'T GET IT. Schools lack a lot these days. Most people don't know the difference between "your" (Possessive) and "you're" (you are) and it's kinda sad. ._.
