What’s next for Clash?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your patience so far with Clash. The launch weekend obviously didn’t go as planned, so we thought we’d share what happened, what we’re doing for those of you who missed out, and what’s next for Clash.


What happened during the launch weekend?


As soon as the first tournaments for Clash were starting in the Philippines and OCE, we realised games were not starting and teams were automatically losing, something that we had not seen in this fashion or scale in internal testing or regional betas across Vietnam, Turkey, both European servers, North America, and Korea.

We started pulling in engineers from across Riot to help triage, but because the global rollout was ongoing, we had to scramble to find a fix as soon as we could. Unfortunately, more and more regions were due to roll out while we were actively working on finding the source, forcing us to make late cancellations.

As our confidence dropped in finding a fix on Friday and the knowledge that teams across the world were ready to go and set time aside to play, we made the call to cancel Clash for the rest of the weekend and regroup for a relaunch as soon as we could.


What’s happening for players who were affected?


We apologize for the inconvenience of getting your teams together, making time to play and ultimately not being able to. We’re giving out some one-time freebies to make up for it, which are detailed below:

First, we’ll be returning all used tickets to your account if they were spent. Further, as a thank you for your patience, we’d like to offer a bonus for everyone who was on a pending or active roster of 2 players or more. We’ll be granting a Clash Orb containing a 3 win XP boost, two Clash team logos, one for MSI and the second at random, and a shard for a 750 RP skin.

This will be added to your Loot tab by June 2.


What’s next for Clash?


Before we try to release Clash again, we want to be as confident as possible before announcing a new global launch date. We believe we’ve pinpointed the underlying issue, but we need to keep testing, and are implementing more diagnostics to see if our fixes are working out. We’ll be testing Clash in one-day betas in every region. More details will follow!

Once again, we’re sorry for how things went down, and we’ll be working flat out until we’re sure we can confidently launch Clash to everyone.

Things happen. Well done Riot for quickly rolling out ARURF in lieu and, today, releasing transparent thoughts on what we all were curious, but not devastated, about.

I'm actually with Riot on this one. Making the call to cancel a widescale event that was really anticipated by a ton of players like this isn't easy, but an auto-loss is something I think would be way more upsetting to players that are prepared to compete. More than anything as a player I appreciate the open communication they've had with us about the issue and look forward to playing Clash once it is released.

Riot provides us with a FREE gaming experience, that we crave, look up lore/community content for, put money toward and tell our friends about.

Riot just wants to make us happy.

Remember, Riot = people like you n me. They just happen to be the "Challengers" at creating new content for and maintaining a Great game.

Ty for transparency, hopefully it is fixed for another weekend!! Agree that random URF kinda sucks, lol, give us ability to switch champs with fellow teammates in champ select and I am happy!

The condition to receive the Clash orb is awful, what are you people thinking? It's like you're pretending to give a consolation prize to people who wanted to Clash this weekend, without actually having to give anything to anyone. My 4 Clash teammates and I didn't bother setting up a team because you (Riot) gave us an announcement that it wasn't happening. So now, we also don't get this orb for the arbitrary reason of we didn't do something that was already clearly pointless? Can we have some consideration for people who didn't think, "I better do this anyway in case Riot decides to only hand out compensation to people who take extraneous and useless actions for edge case scenarios such as this?" I know I'm being hyperbolic, but seriously, I know I'm not the only person who missed out on Clash who didn't bother setting up a team for an event that wasn't happening (partly because I have four teammates in the same situation).

Well RIOT thank you for doing this so early, it seemed a lot of people were upset from what happened with the clash cancellation. For you to give us an orb giving anyone who was affected from the clash mode is very kind of you since you already gave us ARURF. I hope that the clash mode can be fixed soon so everyone can continue to enjoy this beautiful game.

You said URF was here for the weekend, so I assumed since it's Memorial Day weekend here in NA, that it would still be up Monday. Players, like myself, can't seem to get enough URF. I think it'd be an awesome staple if it was put up once a month for a weekend. Since making an account for this game, I've only gotten to play URF 3 times and have played various other RGM, none compare to URF.

In my opinion you should Beta test something for more than one weekend. But Riot handled the situation very well, and I applaud them for that.Veigar

I personally feel that ARURF is not really a good substitution for what was supposed to roll out this weekend. IMO....
