Refer-a-Friend Update is now live

Riot·2/2/2015, 9:05:21 PM·0 votes·79,339 views

We started RAF to reward players for their part in growing League and we’ve updated the program to simultaneously remove incentives for abuse and better serve most League players. As we were working on the update, we found that the majority of League players refer between one and five friends.

The updated design now rewards you for bringing those friends into the game. With the new update, for every friend you refer who reaches level 10, you’ll earn 1000 IP. You can refer a total of five friends, and with three successful referrals, you’ll unlock the Grey Warwick skin. Recruit five friends and you’ll unlock Medieval Twitch.

There are no additional rewards to earn, and everyone who participated in Refer-a-Friend in the past have been transferred to the new program with the same number of referrals as before. For example, if you’ve already referred four friends, you’ll automatically earn 4000 IP and Grey Warwick. Please note, we’re also auto-redeeming unclaimed rewards for players who used previous versions of Refer-a-Friend, but this process could take a few days.

We’re excited to launch the update to the Refer-a-Friend program, head here to get started — good luck and have fun bringing your friends into League of Legends!

Could you at least re-add the free Rune Page in as reward at 4 friends? It's sad having to miss out on that imo.

How is it RAF took like, a week to take down, update, and put back up, but Tribunal is STILL down?

This is kind of pointless. How are players who have all champions and max rune pages supposed to be motivated by this. I've pretty much maxed out what I can get in this game, so skins and gameplay updates are the only thing at the moment keeping me around in terms of exciting updates. Hopefully this process works out, but I don't see a driving motivation to bring players into the fold. Perhaps market saturation is already upon us with no more major growth?

Sweet, I forgot that I referred a friend two years ago who went to lvl 30! :) 1,000 RP already. I'm motivated to refer again. :)

But Riot, I never moved from the first version because I was clinging to my goal of getting 5000 friends and being flown to LA to design a champion :(

Does this mean my dreams can never come true?

What is stopping a player from just making smurfs? I know it's against T&C, but let's be honest...

If it's IP address, i have 3 roommates who don't play yet.

I'm one of the (apparently rare) people who got a large number of legit referrals in the old system and already earned Grey Warwick before the change. I heard talk of some sort of special loading screen border or icon or splash given to people who earned these skins before the change. Is this happening?

I spent a long time putting ads out for league on all sorts of forums to get those referrals and Grey Warwick used to feel like a very special and rare reward for that. But it's pretty cheap and easy to get now. I understand and support why the change was made, and I understand that a large majority of people that earned it in the old system were cheating. But as someone who wasn't, it feels pretty crappy to not have a unique reward anymore. Even just the token of a special watermark or something on the splash would feel like an acknowledgement of the effort I put in.

Now with all that said, I can't complain too much, because I got most of my referrals in the first system, so I got them AGAIN in the second system, and now I'm getting rewarded a THIRD time at least for the first 5. So I can't say I didn't get my fair share. It's just a little sad to lose a unique status I was proud of with that skin.

I need some friends that want to play league to refer

Misplaced Faith2/4/2015, 10:00:57 PM2 votes

Question, If you don't Twitch, and you get all five refferals, will you just get the skin until you can unlock him, or will you get the skin and the champ?

Is there a way to see your progress towards the rewards?

Shwod32/6/2015, 4:54:43 AM1 votes

Can I just say that everybody has forgotten about ZacZac . Honestly I think that they should give some free stuff for the champions nobody ever plays, like Zac and Yorick . Just saying.

Thank you riot for the free IP :D I already had one referral from way back, so I used some of the 1000 IP I got to buy Warwick Warwick! I asked three more friends to join me already, I plan to use the 3000 IP from them to finally get Twitch Twitch! I've been wanting to get Twitch for a real long time. I could probably get a fifth referral, we'll just have to wait and see!

SoryInAdvance2/9/2015, 3:56:45 PM1 votes

So...in theory, could i not just make 5 smurfs and level them all up to 10?

Marsness2/4/2015, 8:34:43 PM1 votes

does this mean i will get my IP rewards again as well as the skin or just the skins?
