Using that logic, you could say that Lee Sin has an impromptu way of seeing via his other senses, just as Sona has an impromptu way of speaking via musical instruments. If that were the case, Lee Sin should actually be stunned when he gets silenced.

Probably just me getting lucky, but out of all the times I have seen Gnar only three had fed and it was due to mirror matches. The rest got huge and carried most of the time.
