In this installment, we sat down with Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon, Brad “CertainlyT” Wenban and special guest host Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street a couple weeks back to talk about the design process behind updating the game for Season 2016.

Shes honestly not that op yea she does a ton of damage but if you say that shes op and needs a nerf then they should nerf heim because they are pretty much the same.. Since you've probably played heim a lot you know that you have to play around his turrets and the same goes for illaoi you make sure you kill tentacles when you can and don't take harass and when she ult run out of range of her tentacles and that negates the majority of her damage... the only thing that may need a nerf on her is her e I believe when she can turn you into a vessel because when that happens you cant really lane without taking tons of damage for the next 15-20 seconds and by the time your not a vessel anymore she lands it on you again

I find it a lot EASIER to play around Illaoi than Heimerdinger .

There's actually a big difference between her and Heim nobody is talking about.

Heim's turrets cost mana and require him to think about their placements to get the most out of their damage. Illaoi's just pop out of nowhere, cost no resource, do free damage for her, and even "accidentally" scoring kills that the Illaoi player didn't even deserve.

I miss the old days when Riot would change the map to reflect the season or time of year. A snowy Summoners Rift in the winter, etc. I can't be the only one who misses this! Riot, please bring it back!

That should only be for the first few minutes. We had some audio issues that were corrected quickly, but didn't want to lose the banter at the beginning.

excuse me... I'ts just been like 2-3 years that its been that way, and i still remember when this comment was literally the only thing posted in the comments, and it really pissed me off at the time that people were using their comments to ask for something that everyone should have figured out by now, instead of commenting on the actual post made, which is what the comment section is for. I'm sorry if that came off as rude, but i was assuming that person knew and was just being annoying.

The problem with trying to replace an adc is that adc's are usually the single most reliable damage source in the entire game once they get their items. There's also the problem with trying to upset something that isn't even considered part of the meta anymore because of how consistently it's failed to changed since season 2, after europe brought the idea of support-adc duo botlane. Sure, there was the whole Mordekaiser thing during 5.16-18, but that's because Morde was so broken it was picked or banned almost every game.

Some of the late discussion was really interesting:

"If there was a champion we did not have ideas for, we resolved not to force it. I Actually feel like some of our work on juggernauts was... forced; and hear we said 'if we don't get something massive for every marksman lets just make sure we have something that players will really love'." --37:20--

"Another thing is, changes that are bad also generate frustration" --38:50--

"by contrast, *Skarner, from the previous set of updates, was an example where we didn't get that particularly well." "It doesn't feel as tied to his core" --39:40--

"Particularly the juggernauts, we started to work on them and we had them in place, and we grabbed a bunch of artists and said 'work with us' and oftentimes they were just confused at what the heck we were doing." "and that made it feel not as great to work on." --42:15--

I know I picked up a few very negative points here, but I think the first one sums it up the most: We have 2 examples very close together of very intensive changes to champions, as well as their associated items. Darius Garen Mordekaiser Skarner VS Caitlyn Corki Graves KogMaw Quinn It makes me SO unbelievably happy seeing that the second iteration seems to be turning out SO much better than the previous. there are STILL people who are fuming over some of the 5.16 changes, but 5.22?--no, things look good.

I predict another juggernaut update in the middle of season 2017 because the champions have either changed out of their previous update to the point where they do completely different things than they should or the game got flipped on it's head and they are pretty much back to where they were before the original juggernaut update. Or maybe a mix of both.

Any way I try to look at it, I can't help but think that they will be updated again fairly soon, maybe not in as a landscapingly big way as 5.16 did but significantly enough to probably make them almost 100% pick/ban at worlds for a second time around.

That said, I like your analysis of that comment about juggernaut because I'm a morde main and myself, as well as many others have felt that his rework was half-baked and probably needed more thought put into him.

I am not happy with the way games snow ball right now. If you watch htc game most of them end before 30 min. I have seen the mode of solo q Chang to o bot gave up a double kill gg. or o we lost that fight game over. it it feel like most game are over in 10 min and any time after that just wasted.

When are these recorded in comparison to when they come out is there a lot of editing that goes into this?

Well, we're still kind of early in the process with the podcasts right now, so it could be three weeks between recording and release.

I'd say there's a minimal amount of editing that happens, mostly to deal with long pauses and flubbing of words. We want to keep these casts authentic and not overly produced.

Podcasts are typically exciting because they are fresh. The long delay greatly decreases the enjoyability. All this talk about "what ifs" are meaningless, because we've already seen how the changes have gone for a number of weeks now.

Sometimes it's a question of taste. We love the authenticity of shows like The Nerdist, WTF, and You Made It Weird, so we like to keep our hands off as much as possible.

they buffed varus and it made him way better than he was... When he ults now it automatically applies full blight stacks on anyone hit so if you hit someone 3 times and pop blight with you ult you already have another 3 stacks on them that you can pop again... Hes so much stronger than he used to be

they made a few significant changes to his shrooms a couple of patches before the marksmen patch, so I'm guessing that'd be why.

I would pay a ridiculous amount of money to buy something similar to DLC's where you can by map skins or different maps for a regular game and only specific people can play on them of course. I cannot stand this regular green summoner's rift map and i dont wanna have to go to dominion or aram and play a few lame games to get away. please please starrt selling either map skins or different maps.
