Rep Pride Through Patch 9.13

Riot··7 votes·24,269 views

Earlier this month we announced the return of the Rainbow Fluft Icon in celebration of IDAHOTB. After receiving your feedback, we’re extending the Rainbow Fluft Icon’s special homeguard animation and profile background! The rainbow homeguard animation will last until June 30, and the background will last until the end of patch 9.13.

Show your support for Pride Month by equipping the icon and creating a dazzling display whenever you leave the fountain.

You can also head over to the League Displays app to download the Rainbow Fluft background for a little extra adorable poro action.

would love some kind of pride emote that way we can show our colors year round

Oleandervine32 votes

This. Why does this kind of thing have to be limited? Homeguard trails would be a thing I think should be implemented all year. Hell, I'd even buy more icons if it meant I'd be able to get cool trails to run around with.

There's nothing better than Aatrox doing his ultra-serious strut while a trail of rainbows follows behind him, tbh

Yaaas, I'm glad these get to stay for Pride month, but pride is year-round really.

I never new to this month that there were 30 different genders or sexual orientations.

Riot did this for International day against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. Being gay, bi or trans aren’t mental illnesses, and if you’re gonna be this sensitive to sexualities and identities that are different then yours, you’ll being getting upset over things that aren’t a big deal pretty frequently :P

You realize a lot of the abuse and trauma lgbt+ face is because they are part of a marginalized group, right?

You state a lot of information without giving any sort of place for us to search and read about these things. If you're going to tell people that LBGTQ has links to these incredibly negative things, then perhaps you should also do us a favor and tell us where you get this information from.

You can't simply search the internet, because Google's way of handling information will bring up clicks rather than the actual facts about these things. If you have any sort of science or sociological evidence, bring it forth before you get into this sort of argument. You literally condemn an entire group of people being "mentally ill" with little to no indication on where you get this information from.

Except doesn't the DSM still list gender dysphoria as a mental illness? I'm not against it at all, I just think technically it's still classified as a mental illness.

I'm sure you know more than the entire psychological community.

Not necessarily an illness, it was reclassified to gender dysphoria from Gender Identity Disorder in 2013. Gender Dysphoria is the discomfort many trans people feel when their gender and designated sex at birth do not match their gender identity. It's not the same thing as being transgender, its a feeling many trans people experience before transitioning. It can be treated through transitioning and acceptance of others.

Calling being transgender (or dealing with gender dysphoria) an "illness" can be dangerous as it signifies that there is something wrong that needs to be fixed, with most people jumping to the conclusion that the "cure" is to stop them from expressing their gender identity, rather than accepting and supporting it (the actual treatment to dysphoria listed in credible scientific journals). Keep in mind that this conversation has happened with homosexuality too, which was removed from the DSM as an illness in 1973. Sometimes the mix of politics and science prevents progress.

I hope this helped you understand. There are a lot of willfully ignorant people in these comments, but for the ones who genuinely want to understand there's plenty of credible authentic information out there.

Body dysmorphia in general, not exclusive to "trans" people is a mental illness and delusion. The perception of self being incongruent with the reality of the self, be that in the form of anorexia, bulimia, body-builder dysmorphia, or any other example of perceiving the body as "incorrect" are delusions.
There are skinny people who look in the mirror and believe they're supposed to be fat. There are normal people who look in the mirror and see themselves as morbidly obese. There are people who look in the mirror and don't think their muscles are big enough There are people who believe they're supposed to be animals There are people who believe they were born the wrong sex.

This is a mental illness and treating it as "normal" is obscenely dangerous given the fact that there are numerous disorders which seem to mirror the symptoms of "gender dysphoria" including bipolar, borderline personality disorder, and there is a seemingly correlative link between autism and gender identity issues.

https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/AFSP-Williams-Suicide-Report-Final.pdf

The suicide rate does not decline post operative but actually increases, there's a serious problem when the supposed prescribed treatment kills more people than those who do not seek treatment.

If anyone were to disagree with you they'd probably be banned from the forums. Food for thought. Maybe when such draconian measures have to be implemented to "protect" the feelings of certain groups the result is only the illusion of tolerance.

He was an alien, until Riot decided 7 months later that not enough storylines connected to Targon and Shurima.

him being an alien didnt add much to the story anyway tbh

he isnt an alien

He is tho alien doesn't mean extra terrestrial alone. Heck British people visiting France are considered aliens due to cultural difference. He isn't from origin from runeterra neither is the void which darkin coincidentally hate. Therefore they are aliens to Runeterra and its people.

That's not how LGB people and their "allies" are treating it, though--or, presumably, the people at Riot.

This is what's wrong with America. Does it harm you? No. It doesn't. Then take that as an invitation to mind your own fucking business. <3

I don't see how your response was warranted whatsoever. In what way am I not minding my own business by posting on the forums of a game that I play regularly?

I have a question: why do rainbows represent Pride? I ask this because I see rainbows as symbolical for other things as well and I wonder where the idea came from.

Catlon5 votes

Gilbert Baker wanted to make a flag to unite the community under when the community was starting to organize and protest back in the day. Each color represents something different.

mvmlego4 votes

I was wondering that, too. Originally, at least in western culture, the rainbow had religious importance. Specifically, it was a sign to Noah's family after the flood that there would never be another flood that would destroy mankind. In contrast, the combination of colors representing gay pride used to be red, gold and green. (The song "Karma Chameleon" makes a reference to this.) I'm not sure how that all got shuffled around.

mvmlego4 votes

I really, really, really don't see what a net three people saw in this that was problematic enough to downvote it. I'm sick of having polite and (what I thought were) non-controversial statements of fact down-voted with no reason given. Please, to anyone who reads this, if you're going to downvote a comment that doesn't have a response saying what the problem with the comment is, then write one.

BettyWhiteLifts2 votes

It's actually pretty simple. Karma Chameleon came out in '83, and Gilbert Baker created the Pride flag in '78. So you're using a song that was created after the original flag was, to say that the original colors were red, gold, and green. And furthermore, the colors all stand for something.

Red ~ Life Orange ~ Healing Yellow ~ Sunlight Green ~ Nature Indigo ~ Serenity Violet ~ Spirit

The original had hot pink, and turquoise as well.

TLDR It didn't get shuffled around. The flag was created before Karma Chameleon.

What is pride month for

Flashes9 votes

Pride month attempts to celebrate those who are typically marginalized by society who are part of the LGBT+ community. Basically, if you don't like "who you're supposed to", like if you're a girl and you like another girl. A lot of people get shut out of society for that so this month celebrates those people.

Investa9 votes

Not that I'm against pride month specifically, I dislike any of these "celebration" months for identity we have no control over. Just seems superfluous, as why would you restrict being proud of who you are to a single month? Or for that matter, why take pride in it at all and just take pride in your accomplishments that may or may not have to do with your sexuality/race/etc.

Plus, in Western society, people are celebrated at a far greater rate than those who persecute them. The irony is the true minorities are those who hate these "marginalized" people. It's pretty much normalized here. Now, I have to give huge respect to those with the courage to have pride in things like this in a country in the middle east or Africa. Or China, or North Korea or Vietnam or...Yeah, the rest of the world has a long way to go.

Are we only patriotic on the 4th of July? Are we only grateful at Thanksgiving? Do we only cherish our parents on Mother's or Father's Day?

No, those things are celebrations. They're moments where we bring special attention to something.

What do you have against rainbows? Do you seriously dodge every time Lux is picked?

What about Varus, Neeko, Sol, Kindred, Bard, Evelynn, Kench, Anivia, Volibear, Oorn, Blitzcrank, every void champ, Fiddelsticks, Shaco, Janna, Karthus, Malphite, Kayle, Naughlus, Pyke, Nocturn, Orrianna, Pantheon, Rammus, Sion, Thresh, Yuumi, Zyra, and Vladimir? All of them are gay, bi, asexual, or pansexual(looking at you Eve), so do you dodge the queue when they are picked too?

DutchessPsyche8 votes

I'm lgbt but I think your champion selection is rather stretching. Also you can't assume void creatures are automatically asexual... who says they can't have sex or want to. Or want to date. And if you're trying to pull some "they don't have a gender they/them" that's rather stupid too. Orianna is clearly female. She was made to be a scientist's daughter. She has pronouns. No need for a pronoun game please
