August sales schedule

Riot··2 votes·109,440 views

Check out all the champs and skins on sale this August! Like previous sales schedules, we’re not posting the exact dates for each champ and skin, but they’ll all be on sale sometime next month.

Just a heads up – since we’re publishing these in advance, we won’t offer partial refunds on champs and skins purchased before they go on sale.

what does early sale mean? I never got it :(

biiplr3 votes

u know how sales are usually 50% off? early sales are 25% because the skin came out recently, i think

Maganar5 votes

The price reduction is by a single price tier.

In other words: 1820>1350 1350>975 975>750 750>520

520 I guess just doesn't go on early sale, but I can't even remember the last time they released one of those anyway. I don't remember the rules as I've become an extremely selective skin consumer by now (have about as many as I really want - I've only gotten a few special event releases in the past year and no older skins and now I've about stopped with those special ones too), but usually look at the schedule to remind myself how long its been since X skin was release (lol).

The last 520 skin was released 5 years ago. I don't know why they stopped releasing them though. It's nice to have a poor man's choice for skins.

Chromas have largely taken the place of 520s.

Riot really needs to stop assuming everyone has been with the game since the beginning just like they have and just leave a little explanation somewhere. Or try to live up to the name for a change. I see this same question in the comments every few months and haven't answered because I know it's always going to be asked again, but this time I'm in the mood, so get ready. If you're interested, here's the marketing history lesson.

Early sales began a while back. Originally, skins were often more than a complete price tier lower in cost for the first week after their release. Later, Riot did what was clearly a social experiment to see if they could up the ante (and profit) on new skins: they released a wave of 1350 RP skins that were the full price for one week before going on that ordinary sale the NEXT week... but if you bought it in the first week (at full price), you got a fairly trivial loading screen border with no effect on your in-game experience or appearance.

They must have had impressive sales in the first week, because it was only something like a couple months later they announced that new skins would remain at full price on release - but that 4-6 months after release they would go on an "early sale" (since it normally takes 10-12 months for a full rotation of skins through the sale schedule). This sale would drop the price by a single price tier rather than 50%. The law of supply and demand now reigns supreme, with Riot delaying the "release" sale by those few months and giving a lower sale, since it was clear people would buy at full price just to have their skin ASAP after release (even if the wait would only be one extra week for maaajooor RP savings).

**TLDR: **It's a watered down and extremely delayed version of the release-day sale that used to exist for every new skin. Hence, it is still "early" compared to the normal sale progression, but delayed so much that everyone forgets when the skin comes out and it doesn't feel early at all, leading to considerable confusion I witness every couple months like clockwork.

Thank you for explaining that, I was fairly confused about it as well, but didnt want to ask what it was about

Spartan DMG 022 votes

So when will those skin be on sale?

andrea4 votes

There's no (public) set schedule for when skins go on normal sales. You just have to check these sale schedules every month and keep an eye out for the one you want. The early sale is just a guaranteed time that you know you'll get the new skin on sale (6 months after release) then the skin is added to the huge list of skins eligible for regular sales.

Välcon3 votes

Actually, as far as I know, the early sales always happen on the last weekend of the month. I remember someone told me this when I was waiting for Star Guardian Jinx, and then it ended up being true.

lightdragoon882 votes

That would of been me saying that to you.

Early sales for July started on the 21st (second to last weekend of the month). Unfortunately with no announcement on this sales page either. I only noticed because I was on lookout for one of the early sales skins and was surprised that there was no fanfare or mention (nor was there a splash for the sales in game). It was at the same time the July bundles came out.

lightdragoon887 votes

Early sales are during the last weekend of the month.

Karmeh1 votes

Are the Blood Moon sales going on sale at the last weekend of July or August?

lightdragoon883 votes

Consider the early sale for the Blood Moon says "**August **sales schedule"

I think it should also be said that legendary skins have an "early sale" but no regular sale (where they are 50% off). Therefore it is worthwhile to wait for early sales if you really want a skin but are on a budget.

You should definitely copy paste this for the next time its asked

A border????

coeurloyal2 votes

The above marketing rant has some misinformation in it.

50% off sales continue as normal (there were never sold at a lower price tier), but when a new skin gets added to the list it takes anywhere from .75-1.5 years for that skin to come up on sale depending on which tier it's in. Rather than making people wait for the regular sale, they added in an early sale with a smaller discount that generally happens ~6 months after the skin's release. People that pay full price usually get an icon and can run the skin from day 1 of its launch.

Load screen borders were introduced as a new concept when the PROJECT: Yasuo skin came out and doesn't actually have anything to do with early sales. They were, however, always a limited-time object meant to reward early adopters, so that may be the reason why there was some confusion about their involvement with early sales. These borders are still limited-time collectibles but are now only available through crafting/missions during in-game events.

No. Loading screen borders as incentive to buy skins were introduced when the second wave of PROJECT skins came out, which is what the "rant" is talking about. And yes, he's right, they did sell them at full price with the gimmick of "Free borders", then sell them at a sale price the next week, and a few weeks after riot did start the "early sales" program.

Sorix11 votes

i think since it was like a week ago, if you talk to riot support they may give you the difference, not entirely sure tho, but worth the shot. with it you could buy another 1350 that is on sale XD

coeurloyal3 votes

They don't really do that anymore because they release the sale schedule in advance. Not saying they won't if you try, but it's much less common now.

Blood Moon Jhin on sale.... just have to buy Jhin first [zombie-nunu-tears]

Stompay3 votes

So Kha'Zix just dropped a price tier (6300ip to 4800ip) but I see him listed as 495 rp as the sale price. Is this intentional, or is it meant to be 440? Just something I'd like to point out.
