10 Years of Riot Music

It’s amazing to think that we’re finally here after 10 years, and for music, it’s really only our first few steps. With all that you’ve seen over the past couple weeks, we wanted to take the chance to share what we have coming for Riot Music over the next few weeks and months!

In case you missed it, two weeks ago on October 8, we released the 2019 World’s Anthem, Phoenix, ft. Cailin Russo and Chrissy Castanza. Check it out and let us know what you think!

As part of the League of Legends 10 Year Anniversary Celebration on October 15, we announced a new collaboration with community artists such as Albert Chang, TJ Brown, Nicki Taylor, and Lunity and unveiled Riot’s first vinyl in collaboration with iam8bit, celebrating 10 years of League of Legends music. The vinyl features 26 orchestral works, including champion, regional, and competitive tracks such as Nami and Freljord. You can grab your own copy from iam8bit here.

Last we also unveiled the release of nearly our entire musical catalog on a variety of streaming services. We have over 200 songs available now on your favorite platform, and we plan to work to add more as new music is released. You can find the entire music collection in places like Spotify, Apple Music, and more!

Is there anywhere we can find lossless versions? I love all the league music, but I would like a higher quality than most of those services offer.

Most of the League music is 16 bit on Amazon HD and a few songs are 24 bit. Sounds good.

Because vinyl gained a collectible value and has been hyped up to "sound better, warmer", whatever "warm" is supposed to mean in terms of audio (it's not unwarranted, many records have a different, more audiophile-oriented master and mix for the vinyl edition). The big packaging of vinyl also looks better on your shelf than a jewel case or digipak. (I'm also tempted to blame some of vinyl's resurgence on stereotypical hipsters, but there's legit reasons why people choose vinyl.)

I but CDs specifically because of the packaging, though. So much artwork goes totally unused in the vinyl (& cassette) releases of various albums, because they just have less surface area, relative to dimensions.

I agree. I really enjoy the booklet (or in case of digipaks the entire package). I was referring to the cover and back cover.

Personally, I think the best choice is either digipak CD or digital download of lossless files with a pdf booklet, but that latter one is very rare.

But... none of those reasons are "new." Music had to be compressed to make it onto a CD, and then compressed further for digital. Vinyl has always been fuller, by definition. I acknowledge all the reasons you mentioned, but they were all present when the CD initially took its place. It makes little sense to me. Portability is a bigger factor than ever. Or are people starting to just sit home and chill next to their record players again? Serious question. The hipsters explanation makes more sense to me tbh lol. At least that's a reason. Other than the fickle nature of mankind, I guess

That was true 30 years ago. Only a small amount of artists use analogue recording now though -- the digital recording is the original, meaning the vinyl is not "fuller" by any means. CDs undergo lossless compression (technically this depends since a lot of music is recorded at 24/48 nowadays) so it's not the same compression as say, MP3 compression or AAC compression.

In the digital age where recording is digital instead of analogue, vinyl has zero sound benefits IMO.

Ooh I had not heard of this before. And yet it seems only logical. TV signals are digital, I've obviously noticed the increased quality compared to old music; yet I never bothered updating my music recording physics thinking.

I still download MP3s for the most part when I store digital music but any decent-quality headphones clamp my ears too much or the pressure of noise-cancellation kills my head anyway ... I love music and sounds really affect me but I'm not meant to be a hardcore audiophile lol.

I suppose it's just a preference, and collectibles in general have really taken off in the market lately. So that's a decent explanation in itself. But I still like collecting CDs more. I guess these thoughts have sated my curiosity about the rise of vinyl... but it doesn't explain why CDs have fallen so harshly. You'd think just as many people out there collecting music would still like the compact disc. In a generalized 'rise of the collectibles' argument, I wonder why people aren't buying CDs (in the West, at least) as often.

In the end, it just kills our supply of available gaming/anime music and forces me to import lol.

Have you guys stopped doing login screens/themes? Are they being replaced by something, or are those resources being redirected to Arcane maybe? Let me know if this was answered elsewhere

it seems like they've stopped doing login screens, ik they've also stopped doing champion spotlights as well. it seems like all they're being replaced by is login screens with minimal animations & adding short rundowns in champ previews (think pantheon's). i'd assume this is because of things like arcane?? either way it's really great to see where they're redirecting that work, even if we're losing something really traditional & a fan favorite. i do know there are fanmade login screens being made though, i'm subbed to this one animator who's done nidalee

Yeah I saw a fanmade Bewitching MF animated splash and it looked professional, it's cool to see people fillin in like that. I'm really looking forward to their next project so I don't mind losing out on animated art that I didn't watch for that long, but it's always sad to see something cool go.

They no longer do log-in screens (and music) because of the updated Launcher, which allows you to enter the client without logging in (therefore, a large percent of the playerbase will never see those screens anymore).

Champions still receive musical themes, and where applicable they try to put them on interesting videos (like Pantheon's development vid), but otherwise they're just posted on YouTube with the Champion's splash art (Qiyana, Mordekaiser et al). As far as I'm aware, they don't seem to be doing music for Events/Skins anymore, though.

I'm sad we won't get any more animated art on League Displays. :(

Music is my FAVORITE THING (irl singer/songwriter) so everything about this has be SO STOKED. Looking forward to the music that is yet to come, as well.

In the 10 years Riot Plz there was a sneak peek of that techno-ish music (True Damage perhaps) with dialogue "See you in France", sooo, Worlds Finals are bringing some epic banger I heard :P Anyways I'm looking forward to the next Pentakill album and please tell me that the prestige Thresh will be Pentakill, that would be awesome. On the topic of music, I must point out why is it on the Champion pages on Universe, some champions have their login music included while others do not? I noticed that the trend to include login screen/music ended right between the release of Taliyah and Kled.

Will these tracks which have been made to accompany and or highlight these champions be included? Just think tracks for new or reworked champions since then need some love. Champions like Warwick, Urgot, Evelynn, Ornn, Neeko, Pyke, and so on should have their music represented on their respective pages.

Another of my favorite songs but one of the few that is near impossible to find. Man, I take a break and find out several seasons of Music of League have gone out. I do like that you have several streams for it, but is there a way to download the albums (like you did with Pentakill v1, Grasp of the Undying, and Music of League of Legends 1).

If ya haven't already, maybe you all should make a part of the website so people can download the music albums (if ya haven't already).
