The 2016 ranked season draws to a close

The final push is here: whether you triumph together alongside familiar teammates or take matters into your own hands on the solo ladder.

With the end of season comes ranked rewards featuring the Victorious Maokai skin, loading screen border division markers, and all new rewards for the most elite players at the top of the ladder. The season ends the night of November 7.

Team Rewards

A new evolving ward skin unlocks exclusively for those who hit their squad goals and pick up enough points for each ward skin tier.

Earn tier rewards via ranked teams! Rack up at least 10 wins with your team and you’ll unlock tier rewards according to your team’s rank. You’ll unlock the highest tier rewards earned by any team you have at least 10 wins playing alongside (you do still need to be on that team at the end of the season, of course).

A new evolving ward skin unlocks exclusively for those who hit their squad goals and pick up enough points for each ward skin tier.

Ranked team rewards

When does the season end?

The 2016 season wraps up at the end of day (in your territory) on November 7—technically this means 12:01 AM on November 8.
When do rewards hit my account?

Rewards will arrive within two weeks of the end of season.
I don’t own Maokai, can I still use the skin? ;-;

If you’re Gold+ and don’t own Maokai the champion will be unlocked alongside your new skin.
Are ranked borders queue specific?

Yep!
Can I use my borders from previous seasons?

Nope. Borders reflect your most recent seasonal ranking.
Will I still decay in the pre-season?

You won’t! We’ll disable decay alongside the season’s end. We’ll turn it back on once the 2017 season begins!
So that’s it, no more ranked this year?

Having some downtime between seasons has historically given us a chance to make bigger changes than when ranked competition is in flight. We’ve improved our approaches to iterating on balance, so we’re looking to potentially have a shorter preseason this year than in the past. What do you think? Are there any eligibility requirements for these rewards outside of ranked results?
Yes, some players are ineligible for rewards because of negative in-game behavior. This applies only to the 2016 season. Here are the details:
- Players with bans or chat restrictions active when the season ends are ineligible for this year’s rewards.
- Players issued a ban of seven days or more in the three months prior to the end of the season (from August 7 on) are ineligible for this year’s rewards.
- Players banned for boosting during the 2016 season remain ineligible for rewards.
- Players who experienced fraud-related and erroneous bans will still be eligible.
All players will have another chance at future ranked season rewards.
Can you tell me more about the Challenger rewards?

Information on the Challenger rewards (including a visual reveal and eligibility requirements) will be coming soon in a separate announcement. Sit tight!

Do wins from different teams count towards my point total?

Yep! As long as you participated in the win, you’ll earn the point(s).
I transferred servers, do I keep the points I earned on my old server?

No, that data is lost in the transfer. Sorry :(
Do my ranked team’s placement wins count toward my point total?

They sure do!
What do you mean 10 wins with the same team?

Being a popular free agent is fine, but you’ll only earn rewards for the highest ranked team you’ve won at least 10 games alongside.

noone is wondering, they choose the skin earlier into the season to work on it, he was a monster of the top s5 and spring split, he was the last true tank to see top play before the false tanks and fighters arose to the meta, he fits in with simplicity and acceptability as every other victorious skin, and many other reasons.

poppy. pick or ban 100% for the first half of the season. Much more of an impact than Maokoi.

The only problem is that Poppy already has Battle Regalia skin, which features golden armor with a blue diamond shaped gem on the crown, which is the defining set of characteristics for Victorious skins. Because of that skin, they couldn't do a Victorious Poppy since it would just look like a copy of that skin.

Maokai was the preferred choice at least around spring playoffs. poppy and ekko were the runner ups for best top lane at that time, but maokai was banned out a lot too.

because there is a theory that last year they started to make a bunch of Victorious skins but they took sivir since it was the best one and since she was played and all, but in that same year Maokai was also played alot so they probably just thought : well instead of creating a new one why not take the Maokai skin and it'le make Maokai more popular and all, so idk but i think that theory is prolly right

Sivir was horrible. You have to go all the way back to Season 2 to find a vic skin that dull, but at least Janna had badass splash art.

Can we get a remake on victorious Maokai? Like really. I know you guys are using him because he was made already last year in a debate between him, sivir, and some other champ, but he's such an unpopular and boring champ for the majority; only used this season to hold back Ekko from becoming big in spring. Ekko, GP, Gnar, or even Shen would've been a way better choice. Shen would've been nice to go with cs Zed but I digress. There are just better options even if I don't play top. Thanks for the free skin, but it'll just be there, probably never used or used once just to see it in game.

Yea honestly I agree with this. I know you doing that assassin rework which really has me worried.... Feel assassins are going to be even stronger and its really going to change the meta. I know this happens every 6 months but.... really not looking forward to a super assassin meta.

You can't be serious... look on gameplay right now and you will see a ton of "delete yasuo posts". Champions will be considered cancer in every meta, there doesn't seem to be an escape from that. Feral flare abusers, the super tanks with on release cinderhaulk, tank fizz, tank ekko, tank yasuo (honestly building champions tanky seems to be far more of a prevailing issue as perpetrators of cancerous gameplay than assassins ever were), basically there will always be the annoying champions of the patch. However at the very least the assassin meta brought activity. Games would accelerate to the pace of an assassin snowballing out of control instead of the metas since then mostly favoring tanks in a 'scale to late game teamfighting' play style. The fights are more fun to play, and far less boring. Also, while being able to get instantly deleted can cause a lot of frustration if you are a carry, it is by far better than the tank meta. Nowadays when top gets super fed and starts split pushing (much like assassins did) you can't stop them because their stats are just too far ahead, they can stick to you and split without a great deal of danger. At least when an assassin got super fed they were still squishy and killable, now they just replaced that with tanks and super high base damage. So tell me, why is it you prefer a zac at 4k hp being able to 100-0 you as a carry, than an assassin doing it who has to actually outplay your team.

Riot has so many champions to choose from. I could think of so many champs that would have a better victorious skin than him (cough, Ekko , Poppy , Hecarim , Graves , cough)that have more of an impact over the season, but no. It's a tree Maokai that's painted blue and gold that we get. For all the grinding I did to gold, it makes me wish I stayed in bronze 5.
