Patch 10.1 Notes

Riot·1/7/2020, 7:00:04 PM·4 votes·129,450 views

Welcome back, folks! Hope you had a wonderful holiday and are ready for more balance and League shenanigans in the big 2-0.

We say hello to the big boss Sett this patch, as well as a huge update to Sylas, League's other resident bad boy. His changes mainly focus on encouraging his role as a midlaner, while making sure players don't lose out on that signature bruisery playstyle he's known for.

Other than that, we have some QoL changes for Vi, Kog'Maw, Kassadin, and Jax, as well as some cautious buffs to champions that have proven to be menaces in pro play in the past. And finally, we're following up on our big support item changes during 9.23, tailoring them so that their users are encouraged to do more in the early game.

Happy new year!

Take this portal if you're looking for TFT's patch notes!

1/16/2020 Sett Bugfix

Sett

R - THE SHOW STOPPER Champions targeted by two Sett ultimates at the same time (i.e. from Sett and Sylas), no longer get stuck to the champions that cast it first

1/8/2020 Aphelios Bugfixes, Sylas Balance Changes, Thresh VFX Update

Aphelios

BASIC ATTACK - INFERNUM SPLASH DAMAGE BUGFIX Aphelios' Infernum basic attacks' splash damage now properly originates from where the primary target was hit and deals the proper amount of damage depending on his level

Sylas

The nerfs to Sylas are on-target directionally, but we overshot bit in terms of magnitude and are pulling back as a result.
PASSIVE - PETRICITE BURST PRIMARY TARGET DAMAGE 1.1 attack damage (+0.25 ability power) 1.3 attack damage (+0.25 ability power)
PASSIVE - PETRICITE BURST ATTACK SPEED 60% 80%
Q - CHAIN LASH DETONATION DAMAGE 60/105/150/195/240 (+0.8 ability power) 60/115/170/225/280 (+0.8 ability power)
W - KINGSLAYER COOLDOWN 14/12.5/11/9.5/8 seconds 13/11.5/10/8.5/7 seconds

Thresh VFX

These changes are aimed at improving gameplay readability, bringing up Thresh's VFXs to modern day standards, and improving his overall thematic feel.

Q - DEATH SENTENCE Cleared up the hitbox, adjusted the hook's position, updated the hit and link break effects, and changed the wind-up effect.

Champions

Sett

The Boss

Sett comes to reign supreme in 10.1.
High-res versions of Sett's splash arts are available on League Displays!

Aphelios

Base movement speed and health decreased. Infernum R AoE damage decreased on secondary targets.

Infernum should be Aphelios’ best ultimate option when 3-5 enemies are standing on top of each other, but 'best' doesn't have to mean 1-shotting a whole team. We believe we can trim some damage and still retain its position as the best against stacked enemies, so we're doing just that.

Base Stats

MOVEMENT SPEED 330 325
HEALTH 530 500

R - Moonlight Vigil

INFERNUM EMPOWERED AOE DAMAGE 100% on secondary targets 75% on secondary targets

Aurelion Sol

Passive stars base damage decreased.

Aurelion Sol's wave control and enemy burst potential in the early lane is a bit too high right now. While we're quelling some of that damage in the early game, we still want to let him reach those high peaks later.

Passive - Center of the Universe

BASE STAR DAMAGE 16-120 (levels 1-18) 12-120 (levels 1-18)

Azir

R base damage and wall duration increased.

With Conqueror nerfed and the fact that he's had low presence in pro play last year, we are being cautiously optimistic and giving Azir some buffs.

R - Emperor's Divide

BASE DAMAGE 150/250/450 175/325/475
WALL DURATION 3 seconds 5 seconds

Corki

R base damage increased later.

Giving Corki some power in a place that won't greatly increase his early game waveclear, but will overall strengthen his niche as an ability-based marksman. Being cautious and optimistic with these buffs, like Azir, based on his low presence in pro play.

R - Missile Barrage

BASE DAMAGE 90/115/140 90/125/160

Jax

R now works with Guinsoo's Rageblade

R - Grandmaster's Might

GUINSOO'S RAGEBLADE Now gains effects from Guinsoo's Rageblade

Jayce

Cannon Q base damage increased later.

Jayce is not in a good spot all across the board. With Kleptomancy gone, he's definitely seen better days and could use some help elsewhere. Fortunately, the Lethality buffs from the end of last year is helping a bit already, but we're also giving him back some of his more electrifying power and accentuating the burst he's known for.

Q - Shock Blast

BASE DAMAGE 55/105/155/205/255/305 55/110/165/220/275/330

Kalista

Base health and armor growth increased.

Kalista is still pretty weak after the buffs in 9.22, so this time we're buffing her survivability in the mid-late game in order to help her get damage out in skirmishes and teamfights. Being cautious and optimistic with these buffs, like Azir, based on her low presence in pro play.

Base Stats

HEALTH GROWTH 89 100
ARMOR GROWTH 3.5 4

Kassadin

Movement speed decreased. R mana penalty duration now displays on icon.

Kassadin is doing a little too well in mid-tier levels of play. We're nerfing his roaming and escape potential to target the players that go unpunished in lane and have the ability to be all over the place.

Base Stats

MOVEMENT SPEED 340 335

R - Riftwalk

DEBUFF DISPLAY Kassadin's mana debuff duration now displays on R's border

Kog'Maw

R mana penalty duration now displays on icon.

R - Living Artillery

DEBUFF DISPLAY Kog'Maw's mana debuff duration now displays on R's border

Mordekaiser

Passive duration decreased; movement speed now flat.

For a juggernaut, Mordekaiser is too hard to get away from and kite. That coupled with his synergy with Rylai's makes it difficult to escape from him.

Passive - Darkness Rise

DURATION 5 seconds 4 seconds
MOVEMENT SPEED 3/6/9% (levels 1/6/11) 3% (levels 1-18)

Nami

E now also empowers the target's abilities.

Most enchanters are almost entirely designed to support their marksman and Nami's no exception. But we see the opportunity to broaden her utility a bit so that she can benefit both basic attacking marksmen and ability-based champions.

E - Tidecaller's Blessing

BLESSING Empowers the target's next 3 basic attacks Empowers the target's next 3 basic attacks and abilities (AoE spells empowered by Tidecaller's Blessing deal 33-66% less damage to non-champions)

Sejuani

Base health growth increased. Frost Armor resistances ratio increased. E base damage increased later.

We're happy with Sejuani's identity as a scaling tank, so we're doubling down on it and buffing her scaling capabilities, while leaving her early game vulnerabilities intact.

Base Stats

HEALTH GROWTH 95 100

Passive - Fury of the North

FROST ARMOR 10 (+0.35 bonus armor) bonus armor and 10 (+0.35 bonus magic resistance) bonus magic resistance 10 (+0.5 bonus armor) bonus armor and 10 (+0.5 bonus magic resistance) bonus magic resistance

E - Permafrost

BASE DAMAGE 40/80/120/160/200 40/90/140/190/240

Shyvana

Gains resistances when slaying Elder Dragon. Fury gains increased in lieu of ultimate CDR when slaying Cloud Drakes. E marked target damage ratio and monster damage cap increased.

For a dragon-killing dragon girl, Shyvana's been losing out on some of the new Rise of the Elements dragon interactions. We're fixing that and also giving her some small buffs to her sustained damage.

Passive - Fury of the Dragonborn

DRAGON SLAYER Shyvana now gains 5 permanent bonus armor and bonus magic resistance for every elemental drake and Elder Dragon her team slays
RAGING WINDS Cloud Drake now increases Shyvana's Fury gains by 10/20/30/40% (because her ultimate does not have a cooldown)

E - Flame Breath

MARKED TARGET DAMAGE RATIO 3.25% of target's maximum health 3.75% of target's maximum health
MARKED MONSTER DAMAGE CAP 100 150

Sylas

Less base stats early, more later. Passive now gives attack speed. W cooldown decreased. E AP ratio increased. W, E1, and R basic attack reset removed.

Sylas has been difficult to stabilize for all brackets of players and has an extremely long record of changes since his release. Due to that, we promised that we'd do some bigger work on him outside of number tweaks that would help bring the gap between all levels of Sylas players closer.

First, we're changing his early lane to be more in line with someone like Ekko and Fizz, champions that have less control in the early laning phase, but get stronger with levels. Secondly, we're balancing him as a midlaner and prioritizing changes that encourage him to be used there instead of other lanes. And finally, by removing his E>Q combo and slowing down his basic attack pattern, we're making a good faith effort to retain his auto-weaving bruiser playstyle while also making measures against the speed in which he bursts down his enemies.

We'll be looking closely at him in the coming months to see how these changes have landed!

Base Stats

HEALTH 585 525
HEALTH GROWTH 95 115
ARMOR 32 27
ARMOR GROWTH 3 4
MAGIC RESISTANCE 39 32
MAGIC RESISTANCE GROWTH 1.25 1.75

COST 40 mana 70/80/90/100/110 mana

E - Abscond/Abduct

removedE1 BASIC ATTACK RESET Casting Abscond no longer resets Sylas' basic attack
E2 DAMAGE 70/85/100/115/130 (+0.2 ability power) 80/130/180/230/280 (+1.0 ability power)
removedSHIELD No longer gains a magic damage shield for 2 seconds
COOLDOWN 14 seconds 14/13/12/11/10 seconds
LOCKOUT 0.2 seconds when moving if Abduct hits 0.05 seconds when moving after Abduct

R - Hijack

removedBASIC ATTACK RESET Casting Hijack no longer resets Sylas' basic attack

Varus

Q cooldown and Blight cooldown refund decreased.

Varus' role as a poke marksman has been quite weak since his last set of major changes in 2018. For an ability-based marksman, that playstyle should be one of, if not, his strongest, so we're specifically focusing on strengthening it.

Q - Piercing Arrow

COOLDOWN 20/18/16/14/12 seconds 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
BLIGHT COOLDOWN REFUND 4 seconds 3 seconds

Vi

R now Unstoppable for its whole duration.

Giving Vi a QoL change to her ultimate, making it work more consistently against knock-ups and knockbacks and letting her stick to her target throughout the ability's duration.

R - Assault and Battery

newDENZEL WASHINGTON Vi remains Unstoppable for the duration of her uppercut

Zyra

Empowered E slow decreased.

Zyra never had a reason to spawn multiple Vine Lashers since having one was the same as having two. But now that we made the Lashers' slow stackable, Zyra can plan her actions around the plants and actually think about which one she wants.

E - Grasping Roots

VINE LASHER SLOW 30%, not stacking 25%, stacking up to two times, but only once per plant

Support Items

We're following up on our big support item changes during 9.23, tailoring them so that their users are encouraged to do more in the early game in exchange for some combat stats. Tanky champions will be slightly more resilient and ability-casting champions will have more mana for abilities.

No bugfixes for the client, no fixes for the crashes or the people who had crazy fps drops/disconnects caused by the game for over 2 months? Or are they just not even documented? Learn to communicate. Rito please.

There are more important things than 5 less movement speed on a champion that is dashing around anyway....

Also "scaling tank"... good meme.

Riot, Omnistone is significantly underperforming because it's not an effective keystone. RNG for a keystone is not ideal in any situation, and you can't really build to support Omnistone since you basically have to be prepared for everything. It's a bad keystone. Stop trying to make "fetch" happen. Replace it with something that's actually useful.

Can we plz recode/rework minion aggro, I've seen many botlanes fight and their minion wave just doesn't aggro back at all and if it does it's 1 Auto then they stop, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and for toplane it feels worse when you can get gunned down by range and minion aggro or its dmg isn't a threat compared to other seasons...

Stexe1/7/2020, 10:42:39 PM56 votes

So many problems continue to go unaddressed or fixed... sigh What do you do / whom do you contact when Riot Support messes up MULTIPLE times and can't fix / escalate it to someone who can fix it?

tl;dr: What does it take to get Riot's attention? (Note: Sorry this is a long post, just want to show evidence backing up everything I'm saying as these issues have been going on for 5+ years now and are only getting worse)

The problems with Player Support (PS) not being able to do anything or find someone who can help are a constantly reoccurring theme I see pop up all over the place. The story seems to go something like this: player tries to get help by contacting PS, next PS says they can't do anything, then player tries to get PS to escalate issue to someone who can do something, and finally PS says they can't escalate it or pass it on to anyone who can help. PS does nothing, player gets no help, everyone is left frustrated and sad. See: "Agents told you eons ago wouldn't truly be wrong at the moment," where 'eons ago' is apparently less than 1 year ago ( https://i.imgur.com/zEAwfCt.png / https://i.imgur.com/PALcRcq.png ).

Seriously, I see this continually. Like the recent Morgana chroma debacle where a PS person said, "get used to it / hope u like it," when Morgana's chromas were mixed up ( https://i.imgur.com/senpEvY.jpg ). Or when you try to get clarification over something confusing, like what content is Limited Edition or Legacy or whatever ( https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/8mphk9/why_is_jaximus_a_limited_availability_skin_when/ ), and get berated by PS saying, "dude cmon i didnt sign up for this," over minor things ( https://i.imgur.com/7Jc8UGk.png ).

Likewise, even when PS says they will refer the problem to someone, it is often unlikely you'll ever see it fixed. For example, I've been waiting on the Limited Edition (LE) borders for "Happy Elf Teemo" and "Union Jack Fiddlesticks" being added for over 2 years now ( https://i.imgur.com/xYEG8LP.png / https://i.imgur.com/nU1FRgF.png ).

Then we have major debacles with PS/Rioters saying one thing and something completely different happening. Here are 3 different PS people telling me that a lot of the 2018 Lunar Revel content wouldn't be coming back (Wukong emote, Ruby chromas, Gold chromas / https://i.imgur.com/xpZDUiY.png ), something I followed up with non-PS Rioters to clarify as well. Then when the content comes back after I spent over $100 on RP just for that content based on what I was told, I get a "sadly there's really nothing I can do here" ( https://i.imgur.com/npgCdwp.png ). A similar thing happened when Riot brought back the Golden Ashe chroma when it was advertised as Limited Edition ( https://i.imgur.com/bRMB1QM.png ) and yet came back in 2019.

You know what happened the last time Riot said content would "never come back" and then it did? Players got an RP refund, an icon, and a special loading screen border ( https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/store/sales/plan-vintage-limited-edition-skins ) or at the very least got a special version of the skin ( Championship Riven: https://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-pbe-feedback/M3soEg9r-an-update-on-championship-riven / PAX Sivir: https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/champions-skins/skin-release/neo-pax-sivir-and-epic-capsules ).

It wasn't like this in the beta. PS worked hand-in-hand with the rest of Riot. I know that can't happen due to the scale of LoL, but you'd think they would at least have a way to escalate key issues. Instead, you have to go to some social media platform, hope your story resonates with people, and get enough traction that some Rioter with influence takes notice and does something about it. Even then it is unlikely. Another example, it's been 5 years since Hippalus and Tryndamere promised to get back to original Limited Edition skin owners better compensation ("Hip himself is working on additional (longer term) projects that should also help our most dedicated players feel appropriately recognized" https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1u4317/tryndamere_w_context_on_riot/ceeqzj4/ ).

I really want to support Riot Games! I've been following them since early, early closed beta. But the company has really changed from being "Player Experience First" to "do whatever we can get away with" it seems. From major fiascos within the company to sleazy marketing schemes ( https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/af8642/the_psychological_manipulation_of_prestige_aatrox/ ), they've really changed over the years into something I barely recognize... and it hurts when a company I loved keeps doing these things and continuing like they aren't even trying to get better.

Whew. Okay, so really, who do we contact / what do we do? Why is there no team dedicated to handling escalation and things outside of the norm? We have Rioters whose sole job is about managing talking to Influencers / Affiliates / Partners ( https://partners.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/ ), you'd think they could get someone to deal with the above issues?

The change to nami might enable a metashift away from adcs bottom lane which could be interesting. Otherwise sounds like an oddly mediocre patch; a new champ already, several quality of life fixes, another duplicate skin line, mixes of reasonable buffs & nerfs everywhere. Not bad but unimpressive, and still dodging some serious issues . . .

Birds Smell Good1/7/2020, 11:06:37 PM24 votes

Holy fuck you call this a start-of-season patch? Back in Season 5 this would've been a nice patch, but with ALL of this random fuckery that you have injected into the game, you need MUCH more than this tiny shit to actually improve the game.

ESPECIALLY ALL THE BUGS IN-GAME AND CLIENT-WISE!!!

JayceAccount431/7/2020, 8:19:14 PM23 votes
  • No client fixes
  • Morde/Diana/Yi/Akali/Kass/Fizz/Cait receive no balancing

Wow the sylas changes no one liked at here. First sol and now sylas GREAT JOB RIOT really fucking with there players.

BlackTecno1/7/2020, 7:52:49 PM22 votes

Take away Sylas' shield, make it so he has to level W second and suffer mana issues, and put more AP ratios on everything to make him a better...bruiser? Those are the changes of a really bad assassin, and to have him in only mid is... disappointing

TwinkleDouch1/7/2020, 11:31:04 PM21 votes

Riot please fix your client. It is laggy, buggy, and has been getting worse.

Also for a pre season patch I find this incredibly underwhelming. Are you ok with this seasons meta? Item selection variety still sucks. and why do you have support items that abandon the player mid game (quest complete)?

IamNotKorean1/8/2020, 2:25:31 AM19 votes

I'm confused. How did Corki and Azir have "low presence in pro play" last year? Did Riot just forget Corki/Azir meta mid 2019 where they were the 2 most played mid laners in pro play?

Address the burst meta???? NO? hmmm..ok Rito. Let your game rot. We'll keep seeing the same 20 out of over 100 champs in ranked over and over again. Stale as hell man. Seriously, who need to get fired for this game to get better?![sg-lux-2]

I guess i'll have to sit the beginning of the season out. I refuse to play this game at all, until you do ANYTHING about the client crashing and lagging EVERY GAME. You clearly don't communicate with players, or listen to the forums. People have been complaining about client issues since the last season, and you've done ZERO.
