When we started this journey 10 years ago, we had no idea what Riot and League would become. Luckily, we were carried forward by the passion of a player community that continues to grow and evolve, ten years later.

There’s nothing more to say beyond thank you.

To mark our first decade as a company and show our appreciation to you for building the game alongside us, we’re throwing a (small) celebration. Here are the details:

10-Year Gifts

Every League of Legends player who has played a game within the last couple of months will receive a new summoner icon along with the Riot Kayle skin. If you don’t own Kayle, you’ll get her, too. If you already own both, you’ll receive a mystery gift. Players who can’t receive mystery gifts will instead receive the RP value of a mystery gift in their region.

The gifting process will take a few days, so hold tight if you haven’t received anything quite yet. And don’t worry if you haven’t played in a bit—we’ll make another pass next week to snag anyone else who logs on and grabs a game.

Bonus IP Weekend

We’re also enabling a bonus IP weekend. Starting at 12:01 a.m. PT on 9/16, your base IP gains will be doubled until 11:59 p.m. PT on 9/18 (so, Friday-Sunday). Note that this is a flat boost—premades and parties will receive the same bonus as solo players.

GIFT FAQ

I haven’t played a game in a while—can I still get a gift?

Yep! Play a game this week (any time through 9/19) and we’ll catch you when we do the last pass next week.
I should be eligible for a gift, but I don’t have anything. What gives?

Due to the nature of this particular gift and the way it varies by account, we’re not able to simultaneously grant it to everyone. This means it may take a few days for the gift to show on your account. We’re asking for a bit of patience through next week as we pick up all the stragglers—if you don’t have it by 9/23, let Player Support know. Additionally, players using the alpha League client may receive the gift but not a notice—double-check your account before opening a ticket.
I was recently penalized by Instant Feedback. Can I still get a gift?

Yes. Normally we limit gifts to good sports, but we're making an exception for the 10-year mark. Let's call it a gesture of good faith.
What are the exact restrictions on the gift?

10-year gifts will be sent to all players who are at least level five and have played a game within 60 days of this post. We’ll do another pass on 9/23 to pick up anyone who plays a game this week (deadline: 9/19).

Does anyone know if playing a "vs bots" game counts for this?

I only recently reached lvl30 and havent played a normals yet. (i will do one right now for the skin, even if i get rekt.)

Kayle is one of my favorite 450-IP champs so the skin will be a perfect gift. Thank you Rito!

Are these just gifts, or is there a chance that we will receive these in Shard form? I play a ton of ARAM, and I don't want Kayle. Im sure there are plenty of people who appreciate the gift, but do not want the champion. I actively do not enjoy playing her, and play a game mode where I may have to.

Like Gift everyone a chest with the champion shard, skin shard, and dust to craft them. Getting shards for the skin as a gift also makes less work for Riot. I'm sure there will be plenty of people opening support tickets to have it removed from their account. If we gets shards, we just dont have to use them, leaving support to get to more important tickets faster.

Wow, you are definitely one of the most entitled people i've seen in some time, congratulations mate. Hopefully they don't let you swap out the skin or anything so you can learn to appreciate the free things they didn't have to give you in the first place.

I disagree with the ARAM collection playstyle, but it is a valid point. People who avoid playing her on ARAM should have some option, as nobody else is being forced on anyone. It's only fair, to me.

Additionally, I think it shows a little ingenuity to implement other game systems into your gift, such as giving the champ shard, skin shard, and essences. Even if it were left to only essences, at least that is more customized than a flat gift that will backfire for a select few in the community.

Back in the days of the free Corki or ranked rewards, this wasn't so much an issue because ARAM wasn't there, and when it was, you had to excel at ranked, so fewer ARAM players were effected. This will be a sweeping effect through all of ARAM, on the other hand, and one that some players build entire accounts around. In fact, the only way around this for those players would be reactivating an inactive account and smurfing. I dislike the idea of incentivizing such activities, even if helpful only to a select few in the community.

People who are new and too afraid of ruining other people's games. Empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, drives this pretty hard.

I know what it feels like to have some clueless noob in game completely running around with his/her head creating a huge handicap. No one likes 4v5s. So as a new player with this level of empathy, they will do anything and everything, learn as much as possible, before venturing into a public game where your performance affects others.

Also, xp wise, its faster just to grind bot games. Its a guaranteed win (so long as MOST of your team is HUMAN that is!) >.<

I agree with this, it took me forever to move over from bots to pvp simply because i didnt want to be a burden and fuck up peoples games

I just want to say, and I like never post but this caught my eye. Get out of bots and into pub games.

I appreciate the empathy part, but playing games with people is completely different. You can learn about champs in bots, but you really learn nothing about how people actually play. People act completely different than bots. Not to mention they ward intelligently, they play on your greed (bait), and many other things.

You will handicap others in games, but you will grow and the lvl of satisfaction far outweighs that of bots. Also if someone is mean the mute button is OP. Report if its bad. There are bad people out there but screwing up is how you get better. GLHF in your pub games!

I'm not a long time player like a lot of people, I started around the release of Vel'Koz, but regardless of all the yelling that "This champ is to OP, Riot nerf this bull," I want to say, thank you, because of what you achieved, you have built a community full of so many great people, you have brought people together, and most of all, you have filled our empty free time.

I don't want to get Kayle, either. Like, I appreciate the thought that was put into it, and I think it's great that they're doing something like this for their tenth year anniversary, but I simply do not like Kayle.
