Support diversity with the Rainbow Fluft Icon

Riot··21 votes·58,605 views

Like the real world, Runeterra is rich with champions from different backgrounds and lifestyles. We believe that diversity is worth celebrating on and off the Rift, which is why we’re participating in IDAHOTB, aka the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, this year.

You can show your support in building a diverse and inclusive gaming community by purchasing the Rainbow Fluft Icon for 1 Blue Essence. Equipping the icon sets off a special, limited-time rainbow animation when you spawn in base on Summoner’s Rift. You can get the icon and the animation until the end of patch 8.10.

I wish Riot supported jungle diversity.

And bot lane, too. Yeah they said they're looking into it, but when is the pay-day my Rito?

That and, support diversity too. I really wish there'd be a day in which support doesn't have to be at bot but any lane could do. That'd be the dream.

EROTIC RAID BOSS5 votes

Fuck that. I don't want sup coming top and creating uneven laning experiences Lol

But more play diversity is good...

So... Bot lane as the place Support goes isn't arbitrary by any means. Dragon control is a key element to winning in late game, and you just don't have control over the dragon or the ability to take/steal the dragon if you threw someone down there solo. Supports do have the ability to roam; it just has to be well orchestrated and communicated. Often times, I find ganking a heavily pushed mid lane around lvl 4 as support to be highly effective. It's all about communication.

Hello Riot!

Toxic Shen main here, but I do support all sexual identities. Just one small itsy bitsy request: Can you make the icon be worth 10 BE? Due to the new leveling system, everything is in increments of at least 10 BE and it's really gonna trigger me to see xxx4 or xxxx9 BE knowing I won't ever get to spend the other 4 BE without another icon sale which, let's face it, won't be for a long time according to trend.

thank you for reading my rant, Twilight Assault

Omar Ali23 votes

Just open a support ticket. I'm sure they'll happily remove 4 BE or 9 BE from your account for you. No need to force a 10x price increase on the rest of us.

Most of us have been playing long enough to have random amounts of BE to begin with. So "10 BE" wouldn't do anything for us. I'm sitting with a XXX2 myself.

Raamah16 votes

How about you make any champion LGBT then?

Kazekiba11 votes

You mean Leona, or Varus, or Taric, or (Star Guardian) Jinx....

EROTIC RAID BOSS8 votes

Well varus, the others aren't confirmed to be any specific thing

Redesignated21 votes

Varus was a disaster of abhorrent decision-making that gave legions of homophobes a lore-based reason to scream in protest about someone being gay; Leona and Diana have never been confirmed (love it when all we get is hinting); Taric started out as a character built around a gay joke with effeminacy as the punchline, and after his rework his orientation has been intentionally and knowingly side-stepped by Riot; and where has Star Guardian Jinx's sexuality been discussed? I may have missed that.

And even assuming all of those are an example of good representation, which they are not — that's three characters and a skin, in a sea of how many?

LuaDotExe5 votes

Diana was confirmed to've been originally intended to be a lesbian by one of the people who had worked on her. I forget who said it, but it showed up on Twitter.

Limmie8 votes

You're thinking of this: twitter.com/Iron_Stylus/status/850598651281907713?p=v

Though tbf Ironstylus just said he wanted to make her lesbian, but apparently he was vetoed on it. So it's no confirmation that she actually is.

Gameinformer40410 votes

Riot said they would make one only if the lore required them to be LGBT. They won't make a champ LGBT just to say they are. The only group able to decide if the champ is LGBT or not is the lore team.

Hungry Cancer28 votes

How about we stop defining people by their sexuality and trying to force organizations and people to involve sexuality in places it obviously doesn't belong, like a video game...

Redesignated22 votes

How about you stop crying whenever someone in a game isn't straight. There's plenty of sexuality, attraction, and infatuation expressed in the game between a man and a woman, are you upset about that, too? Rakan Xayah, Lucian, Ashe Tryndamere, Rumble Tristana, Zoe Ezreal, Illaoi Braum Gangplank, Azir…

saltran3 votes

Illaoy x GP best ship

Prototype Axel2 votes

You gotta add teemo to that list also. Rumble likes trist but trist likes teemo and teemo doesnt like anyone and rumble is mad about it. Also the azir thing is more brotherly love more than anything. And you cant forget garen and kat (confirmed by riot) and ezreal and lux. Zoe lux and ez have the same story as rumble teemo and trist tbh

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

Azir had a wife and children before Shurima's fall, though, didn't he? So that counts.

On the Lux, Ezreal, Zoe thing, do they have the same story? They kinda debunked that with Lux's current voiceover.

Prototype Axel1 votes

lux's new voice over confirmed ez likes her. she had a line "Are we supposed to be dating or something..we have never even talked." and then ez jumps off the aram bridge.

As for the Azir thing. No statement was made of having any wife or kids. As a kid xerath was his slave. But when Azir almost died Xerath saved his life. From then on they had a secret brother love for each other (Since slaves are never the master's equal). Well when Azir took his place to get ascended he made a big speech and declared all slaves free and gave xerath a name and said brother for the first time. Xerath replied with words along the lines of it being too late for that then pushed azir away from the shrine and absorbed the entire power of the ascended causing him to become pure arcane magic.

Daedric Etwahl2 votes

Hm, for some reason I could have sworn Azir had a wife, and several kids... huh.

As for the Ezreal x Lux thing... that doesn't really confirm anything. It's just a reference joke to the fandom's tendency to ship them despite it not being canon. Ezreal jumping off the bridge is just an addition to the joke

Hungry Cancer35 votes

I don't give a flying fuck about anyone's sexuality straight or not. Guess what? I'm not straight but I don't appreciate people trying to make everything about sexuality, it's annoying and juvenile, and frankly its part of the problem, along with people like you who get aggressive and make false assumptions about someone's sexuality solely because they disagree with you on something as basic as not defining people by their sexuality. I don't care about champs flirting and shit in VO's as I don't listen to them and it's not at all what I'm talking about, but to totally define a champ by their sexuality or to release a champ as LGBT solely for the sake of having an LGBT character, as the post I responded to suggested is beyond stupid and is begging for problems, and frankly I find that a metric fuck ton more offensive than just focusing on the game and the important parts of the champ's character and personality.

No one is saying that the sexuality has to be the core focus of the character. It could just be said in passing or they could casually have a same-sex partner be part of their lore (as there are many champs already with partners or romantic interests, be it necessary or not).

It's nice for you if you don't care about the characters or their relationships with each other, but some people are interested. I personally adore seeing the interactions between champions and learning more about the world of League.

Also, seeing representation in media is really awesome! I know I feel great seeing a trans or gay character and being able to relate with them on some level. The reason why people choose to fight it so hard really baffles me. It wouldn't be hurting anyone to include a gay/trans character. After all, why does their sexuality matter right? They'd just happen to be LGBT, it's not impossible to write a well-crafted gay character. If people get mad about it, that's really on them.

Have you seen marvel comics lately?

Sjws have basically destroyed their comics with gay and lesbian charaters. (Whos pretty much only character trait is being gay or lesbian to the point that almost every word out of their mouth is to make sure people know their sexuality)

Straight white males are basically 100% the bad guy and some comics have up to 40% of the comic be lesbian.

Captain america is now a nazi.

Iron man had his suit confiscated.

Thor is now female.

Watch a youtuber named diversity and comics if you want to see how "inclusion" can be REALLY REALLY bad for an industry if allowed to go unrestricted.

Which is why some people are fighting against it.

Because constantly bringing up differences doesn't allow anyone to forget that there are differences and just move on?

Morgan le Fey11 votes

Hun, I get that you want to just forget that we exist so you don't have to do anything, but I have to actively think about whether or not I'll get attacked or discriminated against on a daily basis. I change where I go based on it, it affects my ability to get housing, to get a job, to get education, to attend certain social events, or what have you. And I have it comparatively easy! I live in a major city, easily one of the top three most queer-friendly in the US, on a college campus, and I'm white, have money, and don't have to worry about my family disowning me for being queer. Did you know that 40% of homeless youth are LGBT? That 50%+ of trans folks will attempt suicide at some point in their life? That we have a massively high rate of mental illness, partly due to having to deal with this BS on quite literally a daily basis? That black trans women are the single most-murdered group by percentage in the US? But hey, let's just ignore that so you don't have to think about it!

Oh hey, maybe we should forget gender exists too? Get rid of all signs of it? No gendered bathrooms, no gendered housing, no gendered sexuality, no masculinity or femininity at all? I mean until y'all stop bringing up the differences literally any time I go anywhere or do anything, I'm gonna have a hard time sympathizing with anyone who tries to ignore why differences matter.

Battalion15 votes

"Hun" using "Hun" as a condescending, self-righteous opener does nothing to get your point across. How can I forget that "you" exist when my girlfriend is a bi-sexual female? LGBT is not actively discriminated against in many, many places. For every place you can think of that is discriminating against LGBTQRSTUV+!? there's another place that is constantly virtue signaling about the horrors that LGBT people face daily, like someone on the internet disagreeing with them, or on Reddit calling them a %%%%%% (not like other gays don't call gays %%%%%%, it's just 'different' that way, huh?).

Show me your stats from a reputable source and then try to explain to me how any of that relates to League of Legends. I'm sure that all those homeless gays would love the fact that you "bought" a game cosmetic. A game cosmetic with 0 profits, so that can't even be donated to whatever charity you think is doing 'the right thing' .

Your entire post is just strawmen arguements, I never said any of that, but you're inserting your own bias. I bet you think I'm some sort of white nazi, not nationalist like you lot like to say are "nazis" I mean furnaces and gas chambers nazis.

Differences in sexual preference don't matter. Tell me why they matter? Do you want a bloody sticker? There used to be a time when people were happy being who they were without the acceptance of others. Now that time is passed and you have to FORCE acceptance or you're not happy. Once you force acceptance the bullshit continues. What more discrimination do LGBT people face? Nothing legally, especially not in your country.

Focus on the shit that matters.

Also many trans people commit suicide because they regret their decision to transition. You can believe that or not, or live in ignorant bliss while waving your "equality" flag in the face of anyone that has a different view of the world.

Xayah and Rakan's love is not relevant to the game nor is Lucian's desire to murder Thresh because he killed his wife. Hell, all lore is irrelevant to gameplay.

However, this is a videogame. Videogames are a unique medium in that they combine movie, written, and interactive elements together to deliver an entertainment experience as a unified package that is part gameplay, part art, part audio, and tells a story. If you forego chunks of these elements, you have a low quality or generally poorly delivered game. Gameplay is but one element of a videogame, but the written, audio, and visual elements outside of the gameplay also need to exist coherently to deliver the experience. That's why I will never understand why people seem to think only gameplay is important in the media that is comprised of pretty much almost all other forms of entertainment media.

If you do not want the other parts that comprise a videogame experience and only want gameplay, play checkers.

That's the only way souls get into Thresh's lantern. He kills them, but instead of letting their souls move to the afterlife, he traps them in his lantern to eternally torture them.

Does it matter? Would Garen being gay make him a more interesting or better written character? No, it wouldn't. Would anyone cry out of this game had no Red Heads? No, it's unimportant character traits that don't need to be there.

Skaarl H Marx4 votes

Actually unimportant character traits are exactly what being gay is, tracer from overwatch is gay but it's a minor character traits, I have gay friends and it does nothing to personality. A person could be gay in league and nothing would need to change, Varus didn't change however it was a bad change as it conflicts with his new lore as he should have all the characters voices. If Xin was confirmed gay it would be fine, have him be gay, just don't make him talk wierd and have his particles have rainbow hearts and it would be a fine gay character
