Champion Mastery

We want to recognize you for playing the champs you love and give you feedback on how well you play them.

With Champion Mastery, you now get points, ranks, and rewards for the champs you play. Now, if you want to show other players that you’re a dedicated Swain main, or a big cheese with Twitch, you can!

How the system works

Finish a game of League and you’ll earn points for your champion based on your team’s performance as well as your own contribution. Earn enough points and you’ll level up that champ’s mastery level, giving you rewards as you progress.

Grades

Hover over your Champion Mastery points bar in the post-game screen and you’ll see the grade that our new system gives you. Grades are awarded based on your overall performance in the role along with the champion you’re playing and, crucially, where you’re playing them.

Leveling Up

Check out your in-client profile, and you’ll see a new stat telling you your mastery score, a sum of all your mastery ranks combined.

We’re kicking off Champion Mastery with the first five ranks for each champion unlocked. Here are the crests your champion will earn as they rank up:

Rollout

We’re kicking off the rollout with a PBE stint from 3/11. If all goes well, a couple of weeks later we’ll then launch a beta in a single region, focusing on Summoner’s Rift normal queues to make sure the feature’s stable for expanded use. We’ll read through your feedback and keep you updated with our progress, too, so keep an eye out for future posts after the service goes live!

Eligibility

All summoners who’ve hit level five or higher will be eligible for Mastery points. However, at launch, it’ll only support normal games on Summoner’s Rift.

The Future

This is just the beginning for Champion Mastery. As the system matures, we’ll unlock extra tiers and rewards as we build on the program!

I'm only interested in this if it's possible to demote from your rank if you do worse with the champion. If it's just "Spam-the-champion-enough-to-get-the-badge" then it'll be even more worthless than Zimbabwe currency.

So this "grading system".... what is it grading? A positive KDA, most gold on team, Highest Damage Delt, & if you got a VICTORY screen... OR is it actually grading each role on the things you're doing in your actual position? Like well timed Teleports? Damage Taken(if your a TANK should be HIGH)? CS in the Jungle by 20min? Towers Destroyed? 1st Bloods? Killing Streaks? x2, x3, x4, x5 Kills? Positioning in team fights? Vision --placing &/or clearing? Because I have a bad feeling that just like SoloQ Ranked that ONLY CARRIES, Hyper Carries, & Burst Mages will ever have the HIGHEST possible Honors/Rewards for each possible outcome. Seeings how they are the ones who do end the games with the HIGHEST -- Damage, CS, & Kills... I play Amumu Braum DrMundo Galio Garen Gnar Maokai Nunu Rammus Renekton Rumble Shen Shyvana Singed Sion Volibear Zac and because I don't "carry games"...I don't win in Ranked.

Is this gonna be an actual system that will let YOU & EVERYONE else know the ACTUAL things they need to be improving on? & rewarding people for playing other roles that don't involve having to ACTUALLY "carry the game(with a + KDA, most Damage Delt, & Highest CS ... ... ... because @ this moment in League if you don't do those things YOU DONT CLIMB RANKED, & therefore must be TRASH...)"

I just want people to know that the Mid Lane Mage, Fighter, or Assassin & the ADC aren't the ONLY champs in the game who are making the WIN happen...

Because frankly I have been tying to stick by my favorite role, the TANK, & my 2nd fav roles Supp & Jungle ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... But the way League is set up it's making me feel as each day passes that just give in... & do what 90% of the rest of the people who climb the ranked ladders do ... Play Akali Ahri Cassiopeia Draven Ezreal Fizz Fiora Graves Jax Jinx Kalista Kassadin Katarina Leblanc LeeSin Lissandra Orianna Sivir Riven Ryze Talon Twitch Tristana Yasuo Xerath

Not that those champs are bad, because they aren't, but they seem to be the only champs that get any credit for anything or climb the Ranked Q's. summoner 3

At max rank you should give the person a cheap skin for that champion...I feel like people would work harder towards it then

A new way to gain bragging rights and free stuff for playing our mains? Sounds good to me.

The only downside. We probably will now see a new wave of people justifying their skills by saying "I have a A+ rank on [insert champion] you only have a B rank. Clearly I'm better noob."

But despite the inevitability of those people showing up. I still think this will be awesome.

I can't help but be curious as to how they judge the support role in ranking. It's kind of hard to measure "successful peels" or "used wards". I suppose the best plan would to just judge assists, and the amount of gold farmed with your item (?)

This is cool and i like it but will enemy Summoners see oour badge in loading screen, Becuase that would tell them we are good with that Champion and camp our lane or something. reallly cool and i am waiting for this, its cool.
