Hextech Crafting is now live in NA!

Riot··20 votes·302,437 views

Hextech crafting and loot are now live in NA! We’re introducing the new system to reward you with loot-filled chests through Champion Mastery when you or your premade perform well and also provide a way to pick up randomized content at large discounts.

Craft, earn, or purchase content like champions, skins, ward skins and summoner icons in new loot chests you earn by performing well across a variety of champions or as part of a premade. When you or someone in your premade party earns any S rank, you’ll acquire a chest. You can earn up to four chests each month, and each champion you play can earn you one chest per season.

Each time you win any matchmade game, there’s a chance you’ll earn a key and winning with friends increases the chance of a key drop. Generally, you can expect to earn a few keys each month.

For those who just want to pick up content at a significant discount, we’re offering chests and keys individually in the store. All chests contain random loot worth more than the cost of the chest (well, depending on how you feel about Teemo) so you can purchase with the confidence of knowing you’re getting a good deal (but a direct purchase from the store will still be the best way to pick up specific items).

We’ve been testing Hextech Crafting and loot for over a month, and we’re excited to bring the system live around the world. We’ll be rolling out Hextech Crafting to each region throughout the next few weeks, starting with NA (Turkey has already been live for the beta test). While this is the official launch, as with any part of League, Hextech Crafting and loot will continue to evolve (including tuning drop rates and the loot mix of each chest).

One important note: if you use Hextech Crafting or loot, anything you unlock (shards, essence, even permanent content that you craft) using the new system WILL NOT transfer with you if you leave the server. We’re planning to remove this restriction once all regions have Hextech Crafting.

When Hextech Crafting and loot launch on your server, all players will receive a special First Day chest, which includes a skin shard for a champ you own, a ward skin shard, and enough essence to permanently unlock one of them. Trying to explain Hextech Crafting and Loot can be kinda tricky, so visit the 2016 Season Update or check out the FAQ below if you still have questions. GLHF and we’ll see you on the Rift!

FAQ

  • What happens if I get a skin for a champion that I don’t own?

If you’re not interested in unlocking that champ, you can re-roll a skin shard with two others for a guaranteed permanent skin or you can disenchant the skin shard and use the new essence to craft something that better fits your playstyle (permanent loot disenchants into more essence than shards).

  • Do chests include stuff I already have?

Yes. Chests are random, and contain loot that might be duplicates of content you’ve already picked up. You’re not stuck with it, though. At launch, you can re-roll or disenchant extra shards, and we’re investigating ways for folks who have every champion to find a use for champ shards they pick up. When you re-roll, you’re guaranteed not to receive a duplicate.

  • Can I earn chests or keys with champs from the free rotation?

Champion Mastery is about expressing depth with champions you play as part of your champ roster. If you want to earn chests or keys with a champ on free rotation, you’ll need to unlock them and add them to your collection.

  • What’s the difference between the two essences?

Blue essence is currently used to upgrade champion shards into a permanent addition to your champ roster. Orange essence upgrades everything else in the crafting system from skin shards to ward skins.

  • What are gemstones and what do they have to do with Hextech Annie?

Gemstones are very rare crafting materials that you can use to forge a chest and key combo that might drop an additional gemstone! You can combine 10 gemstones to forge Hextech Annie, a skin exclusive to Hextech Crafting, now available as part of loot.

Although these are not available at launch, we will introduce special premium chest bundles which guarantee a gemstone drop. Premium chests will only be available at limited times, may have different content inside compared to normal chests.

  • I own all of the champions. What can I do with champion shards?

At launch, you’ll be able to disenchant extra shards you find in chests for champion essence. We’re currently exploring ways for players with every champ to use the shards they earn but we haven’t settled on the final form of the plan yet. As Hextech Crafting and loot continue to evolve throughout the season, we’ll keep you posted on any new features we add.

  • Can I still earn Champion Mastery chests when my account is restricted for unsportsmanlike behavior?

No. Players who are chat or ranked restricted or currently banned from play cannot earn orunlock chests through Champion Mastery. We want to be sure players punished by our systems are making genuine efforts to reform, so the period of ineligibility can extend beyond the duration of the chat restrictions or suspensions received. If they make significant progress, the rewards will start to appear after games once more.

  • What do you mean, content I craft using the new system will not transfer between servers?

Because Hextech Crafting is a new system that isn’t available on every server, crafting material (anything used at the crafting table, like shards or essence) DOES NOT transfer should you choose to leave the server you’re currently using Hextech Crafting on. If you earn or craft permanent content, you can redeem it to add it to your collection (which WILL transfer), but if you leave it unredeemed, it would not follow you. Once crafting and loot is live in all regions, we expect to lift this restriction.

I have been chat restricted/temporarily banned in the past by the tribunal. Today I got on and was super impressed by the new loot system, it seems really really amazing, and a huge step in the right direction for League. However, I became aware after earning an S rank that I was unable to receive loot due to my prior restrictions on my account. I want to make a suggestion here for improvement. There is a lot of toxicity in league, and sadly I don't think the tribunal helps all that much. But here is an opportunity to give players like me incentive to act accordingly. I can promise that if I knew I wouldn't receive loot if I was toxic, I would definitely reform my behavior. But already banning me from receiving loot for past restrictions... that seems harsh and it only makes me more prone to toxicity, giving me no reason to act better. Thanks for your consideration.

Everyone needs to upvote this man.. Whether you are toxic or not. He makes a very valid point.. Lyte is a behavior specialist.. maybe he can shed some ..heh.. LYTE on introducing systems that make players want to be more toxic...

Seems to me, what we have here is a case of double punishment..

We were sent to our room, had our games taken away last summer and now that Riot is buying all the kids icecream, you don't get any because of how you acted last summer... nevermind the fact you have been well behaved since..

Great parenting Rito.

Kenywi19 votes

He shouldn't have to be rewarded for not being toxic. He gets rewarded for playing well. Its not LOL responsibility to teach him manners his parents were supposed to do that.

Bauchelain33 votes

If you misbehave once when you're 6 years old and then FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE you can never have ice cream again, that's what Riot is doing here. There's no way to justify this kind of favouritism.

Godhri12 votes

All I see is a guy trying to blame his future/potential bad behavior on the new system. I agree that people who aren't currently punished should be allowed to reap rewards, but to blame your potential future behavior on the system is just stupid. You are responsible for your own actions.

Twizted Psycho9 votes

If you were to actually read the comment instead of skimming it, you would see that CantSee Sin is actually saying that if he had the ability to start getting rewards in the future, it would deter him from being toxic. He is not saying that hes going to be toxic specifically because the new system will not allow him to gain rewards from doing well, just that it would be an incentive to improve his behavior if he were able to gain rewards.

Vindictive Ex Gf14 votes

The entire last sentence of that post is what this person was referring to. He specifically said not getting rewards makes him prone to toxic behavior, and doesn't make him want to behave better. I'm sorry but we shouldn't need rewards not to treat other people like crap.

We don't get rewards to deter us from abusing random strangers in everyday life, and as normal people we shouldn't need it here. Get angry and talk to yourself about it. Don't try to run someone else down in public because they don't satisfy your standards. I'm sure he can get the rewards in the future. Unless he still can't control himself.

Can we use Hextech Crafting to give Graves his cigar?

cat bus777777712 votes

Guys, I think Yorick took Grave's cigar!

Snow Lion v2195 votes

Yorick digs graves. He would never do that!

owd45617 votes

Yes but in a creepy and stalkerish kind of way. He has a little shrine of things he has "acquired" from graves.

Troll for Trump35 votes

Maybe Yorick can "acquire" Grave's winrate...

RiotWingfield68 votes

Hey guys!

We're currently in the process of turning everything on. Hang tight :)

It's on. Gogogogogogo! :)

What about if you already have level 5 mastery with champions?? Are we going to get anything for having completed that already?? Or are we just kind of out of luck :/?

Xigna26 votes

These rewards don't have to do with your champion mastery ranking, they're based on your post-game "grade" score. So if you get an S with Lucian in a game, even if you're mastery level 5, you'll get a crate

LïfêšÅBädDrêàm66 votes

i think you should have a better chance of getting something for someone you play, like. I have LeeSin 145k Blitzcrank 125k but i get infernalAlistar who i have 1k for and am very bad at item 3070 then again i doubt anyone will see this

any word on the decision on if this is being applied to other game modes? I play ARAM only :( thanks!

Bear Juice14 votes

was wondering about this too as it is the only game mode I play, but I suppose they would then have to add champion mastery points to ARAM too.

Adonna13 votes

yea I had read somewhere that they were 'thinking' about adding champion mastery to other modes. ETA or final decision - no idea but I wish they would have, even before crafting. Looking at my account with 2000+ ARAM games and then your page is blank and no mastery. It's like our progress and learning isn't worth anything on any other mode - which is bullshit imo.

Xavomega9 votes

you can play 2000+ aram and still have almost zero knowledge of how to lane in summoner's rift or rotate objectives or ward because it is very much different, so it is fair. What they are thinking, and I suggest (it will take some time though) is that aram and other modes have their own mastery system, so you can be for example a master in ahri in summoner's rift but you can be a beginner ahri in 3s, and maybe zero exp on ahri in aram according to what you have played.

Minarde10 votes

Considering Riot announced that the future rotating mode queue will have Champ Mastery, having separate Mastery levels for each mode would quickly get out of hand. There'd soon be 10+ different Mastery stats bogging down your profile.

Furthermore, Champ Mastery specifically measures how much time you've spent playing a champion. Map-specific skills, like laning in SR, are reflected in MMR, not in Mastery. Players have the same opportunity for increasing Mastery, regardless of whether they're Bronze or Challenger. As such, "SR master Ahri" and "TT beginner Ahri" makes no sense with respect to Mastery, since you're still playing Ahri in both cases.

DoctorRekker20 votes

I think they should add champion mastery points to ARAM. It's not like you aren't mastering the champion just because you didn't particularly pick that champ.

zXr66625 votes

This system is anti ARAM, cries ARAM is the reason I play league over all other Mobas...

Ąstral19 votes

Agreed. I play both ARAM and Summoner's Rift, but I play ARAM much more. I would love if I could get mastery points and such in ARAM. Even if it's a reduced amount, I think we still deserve mastery.

Ryu Hikaru11 votes

I'd really like a reply to this as well. ARAM plz

Taioron27 votes

ARAM is also the only match type I play, and has been ever since it became a game mode. Please Riot, be supportive of people's mode preferences and allow us to get Hextech crafting stuff through ARAM

taz209012 votes

I only play aram also. I want hextech crafting too :( Amumu

You are ineligible to earn loot due to previous behavioral restrictions.

Is says this after a game, but i am not chat restricted, or restricted by any means. I have been toxic in the past, but not recently. What is going on here? Will i not be able to receive anything?

Count Draynor10 votes

Same here, so annoying...

Count Draynor23 votes

Direct response from support "This restriction will be lifted after your punishment ends and you’ve shown clear improvement. Because it’s based on your personal behavior, there’s no set date or time when this will happen."

So apparently you have a depend on an automated system to determine that you're "reformed" until you are allowed to get drops. What a fucking joke.

Sythriel Draken38 votes

Love it how I reformed, did my chat restriction and yet the system is still punishing me by not giving chests.." No. Players who are chat or ranked restricted or currently banned from play cannot earn or unlock chests through Champion Mastery. Once they’ve reformed, they’ll be eligible for rewards again. "

I am neither chat restricted, rank restricted, or currently banned.. Please fix your system.

RiotMirross22 votes

Hey there,

We view champ mastery chests and keys as a reward, as we did with the end of season rewards last year. We're holding players to a higher standard of behavior for rewards than having just completed the specific restrictions they were given.

Great job working off your restrictions. If you keep up the good behavior then you'll become eligible for chests and keys soon.

Sunka6 votes

This is fine and all, but what is the time limit after completing restrictions? I find this a little overbearing on the community and extremely unfair to those people who have worked to better themselves. You may disagree and that is fine, considering community member have almost no say anyways (considering the Tribunal system is 14 year old kids pushing PUNISH without reading) but I want to know what you guys plan on doing about this.

VexingRaven8 votes

considering the Tribunal system is 14 year old kids pushing PUNISH without reading

Erm... The Tribunal has been offline for months if not the better part of a year. It's all automated now.

Shayapig29 votes

You are ineligible to earn loot due to previous behavioral restrictions. How do i "redeem" myself?

RiotMirross27 votes

Keep up your good behavior and you'll become eligible.

HumperDumper6 votes

what happens if we already have a lot of mastery 5 champions?

Jezter King2 votes

Was wondering this myself, I have 11 lvl 5 mastery champs

CornDoges28 votes

Nothing about this system involves champion mastery. You get a chest if you score an S rank in match performance. (once per champ per season, limited to 4 per month)
