We're launching some new social features throughout the 2016 season to make it easier to play with friends. Enter the League Friends app, which you can download (for free!) right now on Android and iOS.

Push notifications let your homies reach you when they're jonesing for a game. You can turn notifications off to ignore folks, like that one friend who won't stop playing Singed even though they feed hard as him.

The app lets you see your friends list, add new pals, and chat one-on-one at launch, but expect it to add features over time, evolving as League of Legends does.

So, this app allows one to to communicate with friends... can it (in the future) allow for spectating? Also, and this one is something I would find fun, can we be able to gain extra IP for walking during the day if we turn on a feature on it to allow such a thing (toggles on for IP, toggles off for no need). This can then be transferred over to our accounts to help buy things with IP. We can gain like 1 IP per every 10 steps we take, so since on average I take about 3,560 steps a day, I'd only get about 356 IP per day.

Yea but what if you are in a wheel chair or disabled? Will you get the same amount of points if you go to rehabilitation?

I believe spectating is impossible until phones and mobile device are as strong as a decent computer that can run league well enough. Spectating through mobile device will be like loading up the actual league game, not a MP4 video file or any other video file because there isn't anything to render it as a video for mobile devices to run. It's not like youtube or twitch where you stream videos, it's more like loading the game to spectate... Idk if this makes sense to help you guys understand. Also, if they somehow do compress it into a video instantly, you wouldn't be able to spectate the person you want because again, it's a video, not the actual game itself for you to control the camera. Nothing against anyone, just saying what I believe.

Actually, looks like Windows 10 phones may have that covered here soon. They run the full version of windows 10 under a different GUI, but if you also get a certain black box thing, you can plug it in and make it a portable computer you can attach a screen, keyboard and mouse to. Of course, all of this is moot seeing as how Riot always seems to forget Windows Phones exist. Oh well.

if there is literally any way to allow for spectating it needs to be on the agenda. that is what most people would like from this app

The closest thing they could reasonably do for spectating from a phone would be to let you see everything that's 2D about a game. Minimap, Items, Summoner Spells, KDA, CS, towers destroyed, respawn timers, etc. You wouldn't be able to see those #BigPlays, but you would be able to tell if your friend is in a close match or almost done.

not really, they can also maybe do it as a video stream, but you only get the automatic camera that follows where-ever there's action

That video would have to come from somewhere, which would mean Riot would have to stand up a server farm to spectate the requested matches and then stream the video from that server farm to your phone. Not enough servers available, then you're just unable to spectate.

You're already doing it from a computer, except it would be from your phone. Since the app is connected to your LoL account, it should be connected to the store and your RP/IP as well.

And maybe also work on your RUNES AND MASTERIES. Sometimes I'm on the bus and think of a nice build and I really don't have anything else to do, so it would be nice if I could set up my runes/masteries so I can go straight to playing when I get home.

Based on what devices players worldwide have told us they use, there just aren't enough League players with Windows Phones to justify supporting the app on an ongoing basis. Sorry to be the bearer of unfortunate news to our players with Windows (and other non-iOS/Android) devices :(

Developers don't make apps for windows phone because not enough people have them. People don't buy them because developers don't make apps for windows phone.

Survey again and ask how many League of Legends players use Windows 10.

If you make an app for Windows 10 it'll also run on Windows Phone.

because i'm pretty sure a chat app is a lot less memory intensive than opening the client, which means they can operate just a tad bit faster? and... you know... an excuse to make an app for the phone...

Looking worldwide, the iPhone marketshare is only incrementally above Windows Phone compared to the gap between iPhone and Android.

Cutting off Windows Phone is arbitrary, and hurts the player base unnecessarily.

This is probably the worst thing about having Rioters comment to us. It's a human interaction at face value, but it's just as much a one-way street as a more superficial posting. If you care about the relations, then considering more of your base as valuable is essential. Decisions like Crystal Scar and ignoring WP aren't huge, obviously, but are going to make more angry, upset players and slowly corrode the player base.

Overall, this is an amazing start with this app. The layout of this design is very user friendly and the design matches really well with the League Client. I love the fact that you can view yours or your friends' profile to see what ranking they are in along with their status (whether if they are online, away, or which kind of game they are in and how long they have been in game for). I enjoy the fact that there is a chat history in here and can copy and paste the text into the writing section.

However, there is one slight issue I have with the app at this time. When someone messages you while you are on the app, it is about a 2-3 minute delay until there is a notification shown on your phone that someone has messaged you on League. This doesn't happen always but it does happen frequently and there's the possibility that some other users might demand for a quicker response than this.

Overall, I still believe that this is a very great app despite the little bug it has and I feel like that overtime, this app can even become better with other features such as spectating their friends' games or the ability to enter into champion select in order to save some time and multitask a bit before they head back to their computer. Those are just some possible suggestions but if you believe that the purpose of this app is only for messaging friends, then that is understandable as well. Thank you again, Riot Games for making this app and I maybe (and hopefully) I'll be able to work with you guys in the future or help out in any other way. Best of luck to you all.
