New Hextech Crafting components

PROJECT returns this year with new skins and a new process for joining the First Strike to unlock unique borders for loading screen cards.

As you may have noticed on PBE, we’ve modified the Hextech Crafting system to prepare for First Strike with two new limited-time crafting materials. Introducing PROJECT Cores and blueprints:

EXHIBIT A // PROJECT CORE

EXHIBIT B // BLUEPRINTS

PROJECT Cores fuse with blueprints to unlock various types of loot. Certain blueprints allow you to craft First Strike icons for PROJECT: Ashe, PROJECT: Ekko, and PROJECT: Katarina, which you will need to secure First Strike borders for their loading screen cards.

These new and existing crafting materials reside in a variety of caches that you can purchase for IP or RP. Caches are similar to Hextech chests but do not require a key to open.

In our efforts to make gemstones directly purchasable, we’re also guaranteeing one per day in special bundles for the first six days of this operation.

So let me get this straight.

in order to get the fancy borders for the upcoming skins we have to pit our luck in these new chests in hopes of getting the materials we need to get said borders?

What about the other way where if you bought them during the first week of launch you got the border?

Riot is doing it this way so they can generate more revenue as people don't have infinite IP :/

But that's ludicrous.

Given how Hextech crafting works now out of an average of 10 chests you'll mostly get 3 skin shards and the rest being 4 champ and the last three misc(wards, Icons).

And that's just barely even a decent average, so unless these chest guarantee the materials we need this is just a huge money sink with little to no pay off for the lucky people the actually have success with such a delusional system. I'm also willing to bet that buying them with IP will cost more than the RP.

Mind you this is all in the name of just getting a BORDER!

Also I noticed that we can only get 6 buy-able gemstones. figures we wouldn't be able to get the gems we need entirely unless we get a decent amount before hand IF you were that lucky before hand.

Have you tested the odds, i find the odds of getting and icon/ward more like 1/10 not 3/10

I've had no icons, and 1 ward in the about 30 chests I opened. I mostly get cheap skins. I have had 2 gemstones in those as well (Not that I own annie, or vayne). Odds are great and all but in the end everyone will experience things differently in a random system.

i think most of the complaining being done has to do with getting hextech annie, gemstones, and having to buy things with rp instead of ip... but either way... THANKS RIOT FOR GIVING EVREYONE MORE FREE SKINS!!!

There are two unique and distinct groups making these claims. The first group is people that play a lot, and have for a long time (probably) and no longer have anything to spend their ip on(own every champion, adequate number of eac rune, etc.). The second group has not been playing as long or as actively, and still needs to save their ip to buy the remaining champions.

No part of getting the First Strike borders will be random. The Blueprints for each skin's border will come out of unique caches you can choose to pick up (for IP or RP!).

Let's say that I purchase an icon without buying the respective skin. If I happen to receive the skin after the end of the event through Hextech Crafting or any other mean, will I have the first strike border?

Also, do I have to equip the project icon as my summoner icon to get the first strike border on its respective skin?

You guys really need to be more clear in the original post. It's not very clear what exactly the new components are and how they function. Like this paragraph "PROJECT Cores fuse with blueprints to unlock various types of loot. Certain blueprints allow you to craft First Strike icons for PROJECT: Ashe, PROJECT: Ekko, and PROJECT: Katarina, which you will need to secure First Strike borders for their loading screen cards." Isn't quite clear. Are these new items guaranteed from buying a PROJECT skin? from the caches? Do you get the first strike border automatically? Just the icons require RNG? This is a pretty murky announcement.

I agree. Everything they announce always sounds like a 10-year-old kid talking past his mom when she's trying to drive.

"And then you can get the cache, and it has the stone, but you can use IP and you'll get at least one, but you have to do it this week but you might need RP to get enough!"

They should just put up links to the relevant surrenderat20 in place of their announcements at this point. It would be worlds better.

Focus more on runes instead of champions, just find a small amount of champions you enjoy playing and are good at and play those.

i have been focusing runes. 6150 for the quints, 7380 for seals and marks, 7380 for glyphs. 20910 IP for one T3 set up. Plus add in for other lanes. Armor for some, AP for others... It's an unholy IP sink just trying to geared for Ranked. [zombie-nunu-tears]

That's actually a good idea. I'd love to see Hextech Crafting offering more borders of all kinds, not just project ones, maybe special Hextech borders, Pool Party borders, champion themed borders (i.e. Zac gooey border or a Bard meep border, Thresh chain hook border, etc.)
