Champion Update: Miss Fortune struts to PBE

Miss
Fortune

the Bounty Hunter

Beauty and danger

There are few who can match Miss Fortune in either. One of Bilgewater's most infamous bounty hunters, she built her legend upon a swathe of bullet-riddled corpses and captured ne’er-do-wells. The booming echoes of her twin pistols in the port city’s reeking wharfs and scavenger shanties are sure signs of another warrant from the Bounty Board being settled.

As part of the Bilgewater: Burning Tides event, we’re updating Miss Fortune’s visuals, while tweaking her gameplay a little.

Abilities

Passive: Strut

Miss Fortune gains gradually increasing movement speed after not taking damage for a few seconds.

[New] Strut now has increased scaling based on level, and only falls off when Miss Fortune takes direct, non-periodic damage.

Q: Double Up

Miss Fortune fires a shot through an enemy to hit an enemy behind them, dealing physical damage to the first and increased physical damage to the second, applying on-hit effects to both.

[New] If the first shot kills the target, the bounce damage increases.

W: Impure Shots

Passive: Miss Fortune’s basic attacks deal stacking bonus magic damage.
Active: Miss Fortune gains bonus attack speed for a few seconds.

[New] Activating Impure Shots enables Strut.

E: Make it Rain

Miss Fortune rains hundreds of bullets down onto a targeted area, damaging and slowing enemies inside.

R: Bullet Time

Miss Fortune plants her feet and unleashes a barrage of bullets in a cone in front of her over a few seconds that damage all enemies within the cone.

Gameplay

Miss Fortune’s in a fairly healthy state. The slight changes we’ve made emphasize her core strengths and shave some hidden power in favor of clarity. Fancy design speak aside, the TLDR is your ultimate barrage of bullets remains unblemished, but we’ve removed Grievous Wounds from Impure Shots.

Digging into some of the other smaller changes, the updated Strut means shields will keep her passive up when fleeing or engaging and we’ve replaced Grievous Wounds on Impure Shots with new surprise strutting: activating her W now grants Miss Fortune’s passive instantly.

The slight changes we’ve made emphasize her core strengths and shave some hidden power in favor of clarity.

We’ve cleaned up the bounce logic for Double Up (yes, we’ve done this before) and improved visual feedback when the ability fails. Now you’ll see a dud bullet plop onto the ground a bit behind the first target if there isn’t anything to hit.

Make It Rain’s a slick package of utility wrapped in a hail of bullets, so we’ve increased the early rank slow, although it doesn’t scale up quite as fast. Overall, we’ve reduced the duration but kept the damage the same. This’ll make the damage slightly more consistent, and provides clarity for both MF and anyone caught in pig-iron precipitation.

Visuals

Miss Fortune’s donned a new model for almost all of her skins (her Arcade self was already pretty snazzy) and her base, although we’ve kept the familiar look you’ll recognize from her splash art. With new run animations, we’ve made it easier to tell when her passive is up.

Miss Fortune’s donned a new model for almost all of her skins and her base, although we’ve kept the familiar look you’ll recognize from her splash art.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to gussy up her spell effects. Make it Rain, for example, now kicks up dust from the dirt lanes or splashes into the river depending on where it’s targeted. You’ll see a few other improvements to readability and general upkeep bringing her art in line with current standards, but that’s the gist of how we’ve given the bloody-haired Bounty Hunter new paint and polish in this update.

PLEASE MAKE HER LAUGH AGAIN WHEN SHE ULTS

Riot, I have played over 500+ games with Miss Fortune over the past 5+ years. MF has ALWAYS been one of my favorite champions, but the weak points in her kit have always felt like her E was lackluster due to the small radius, awkward cast animation / cast time as opposed to other ADC's who have an escape built in that they can use mid-kite or mid-fight inbetween attacks. The unchanged E might preserve her theme, but it doesn't help her fragile gameplay which revolves around teammates dedicated to protecting her in fights.

As for the W... removing grievous wounds, really? This is one of MF's early dueling caveats as a good MF can calculate how much a heal reduction will restore enemy champions mid-skirmish and come out on top!

But instead... you chose to go with W triggering her passive.

So let's talk use-cases here, the following is a list of things on live, right now that would nullify MF's passive and make her easier to delete.

Single Target DoT's:

  • Brand Blaze
  • Caitlyn Yordle Snap Trap
  • Cassiopeia Noxius Blast
  • Darius Hemmorage
  • Fizz Seastone Trident
  • Gangplank Grog Soasked Blade
  • Malzahar Malefic Visions
  • Mordekaiser Children of the Grave
  • Nautilus Titan's Wrath
  • Nidalee Bushwhack
  • Singed Poison Trail
  • Swain Torment
  • Talon Noxian Diplomacy
  • Teemo Toxic Shot & Noxious Trap
  • Tristana Explosive Shot
  • Trundles Subjugate
  • Twitch Deadly Venom
  • Udyr Tiger Stance
  • Urgot Noxian Corrosive Charge

[This part is sketchy because the passive is defined as: [New] Strut now has increased scaling based on level, and only falls off when Miss Fortune takes direct, non-periodic damage."

...If those are single target, DIRECT DoT's... would they not remove her passive?

PLEASE CLARIFY >.<

Don't forget about these:

  • Red Buff
  • Gift of the Toadstool / Gromp
  • Liandry's on any champion with magic damage sources
  • Cinderhulk / Sunfire Cape

AoE Dots:

  • Anivia Glacial Storm
  • Cassiopeia Miasma
  • Corki Valkyrie
  • Gangplank Cannon Barrage
  • Katarina Death Lotus
  • Malzahar Null Zone
  • Morgana Tormented Soil
  • Nasus Spirit Fire
  • Pantheon Heartseeker Strike
  • Rumble Equalizer
  • Shyvana Burnout via Dragons Descent
  • Viktor Chaos Storm
  • Wukong Cyclone
  • Rammus Tremors

MF Passive is supposed to ignore the above-mentioned and retain a MS speed bonus? Please clarify, because on one hand this sounds like it can be useful but its not an escape per se like Vayne, Lucian, Graves, Corki, Sivir, Kallista, Tristana, Draven, Caitlyn, Ezreal, Quinn, Teemo, and Twitch have.

The other ADC's not listed (Ashe, Varus, Jinx, Kog'Maw) have very strong CC capabilities, stun/root/slow's. Whereas MF has a small AOE 'slow' and as others have stated is difficult to make use of effectively unless they are rolling AP.

RITO PLZ... reconsider removing the grievous wounds :(

FIX HER E instead!
Maybe make it so she can cast it without having to stop (would improve kiting ability), or improve the area to roughly the size of Anivia's Glacial Storm, or change it from magic damage and have it scale with AD so that it's a relevant DPS ability to offset the animation / cast time!

PLZ DON'T break one of my favorite champions >.<

Oh thank GOD they didn't nerf her breasts.

The arm movements in her R looks like what I want to do while I run

...Yes I'm very strange.

The Grievous Wounds has been removed, that was not cool

Argent Lyal XIII7/8/2015, 12:38:43 AM70 votes

I am sorry, but removing the Grievous Wound from MF's Impure Shots is one of the worst updates I've seen. MF was the only ADC who could actually prevent opponents from healing so much in a sustain lane like Nid+Taric. Now that GW has been removed, there is no way outside of Ignite for an AD champion to lessen the healing affects on their targets. That was one of MF's best things. And now you've destroyed her niche.

At least put the Grievous Wounds back on her with Make it Rain so that it's not as lousy an ability as it is. I mean, she has to just sit there and channel it only for it to slow an enemy just long enough for the slow to time out as she finishes channeling. Make that ability more than just a waste of mana with low damage and usability.

Sorry, RIOT. I usually support the choices you make with your reworks. But this is just absolutely ridiculous.

Taking away her grievous wounds nerfs her on so many levels. Who the hell thought this was a good idea!? We should form a petition and demand Riot undo these changes.

Derple7/7/2015, 6:28:40 PM59 votes

Definitely expected a bit more to make her viable (from soloQ to competitive) like they did with Ashe's update. I don't see this changing anything but W which could even be a nerf since strut can still be canceled with damage while no longer adding Grievous Wounds.

Maybe they will change her weird scalings, that would help her a lot. It's a shame that they feel she is in a healthy state when she is considered garbage tier by high elo and professional players.

She is too awesome to be overshadowed by most other ADCs.

Desamora7/7/2015, 8:21:44 PM47 votes

Please don't remove grevious wounds! :(

Her arm movements look goofy as hell..

I'm not an MF main, so I may not know what I'm talking about, but I always thought, bullet time aside, how her impure shots worked was core to her identity. The grievous wounds wasn't hidden. It was part of the reason her enemies couldn't rely as effectively on lifesteal in a duel and why she was particularly useful against certain champions. The only way in which grievous wounds was hidden was that almost nothing actually grants grievous wounds anymore, which makes it feel more like it's simply an ability Riot is trying to phase out of League for the sake of "clarity."

The rest of her update matches this, not that I dislike the other changes. But what's clear and consistent in current League: (and I hate that I'm saying this because I'm not someone who's complained about its creep) Mobility. So how do you changer her, by maker her the...er...a mobile ADC, and that might be a problem because not only are so many other ADCs mobile, but the mobile ones are far more mobile than her even with this tweak. This means her mobility will mostly give her an edge against non-mobile ADCs and ADCs not laning with healing or CC using supports or using significant lifesteal in helping her chase them down. I honestly don't know how many match-ups that's representative of, but it seems like a small number.

This is because while it will help her keep up, I don't know that it'll be enough to help her get away when being pursued more than her current kit will against today's mobile champs and plain ol' CC, and it certainly won't help her win fights. I honestly kind of feel like she could have gotten some tweaks to strut to help make her mobile just as a QoL against a more mobile champion set that's emerged. This is especially true because the core identity you're enforcing of a lot of bullets just isn't powered to hit hard enough to do real damage in mid to late game, so now in exchange for her mobility, you're taken away that much more relevance to her presence in those phases.

That said, I really like the idea of the buffs she's gotten. They just don't fee like a fair trade for what she's lost. Her updated art looks really nice, though.

Edited to correct a couple typos.

Still havn't nerfed Irelia or removed Teemo , what a MissFortune

Neglector7/7/2015, 11:55:36 PM34 votes

Take away Grevious Wounds. Make a weak ADC that I LOVE to play even weaker. Great plan Rito.

Noboty7/8/2015, 12:14:38 AM32 votes

This rework is pointless. Minions can still cancel her passive, so she still gets punished for harassing. And with how much Heal summoner is rampant, I can't fathom who thought removing Grievous Wounds was a good idea while leaving her E's rooting her in place while casting it. The animation related to her ultimate is also terrible compared to the original one.

I am not looking forward to this. At all.

Kvothaniel7/8/2015, 5:08:33 AM26 votes

Wow, MF WAS one of my favorite ADCs right beside Tristana, but this rework just feels like a kick in the teeth. Maybe there will be some tweaking to her damage numbers to make up for the massive nerf to her entire kit with the removal of the grievous wounds, but she'll still feel weak when you lane against the Sona, who is in-season right now, and other supports with the healz. Rito why you do dis?

Zenie7/7/2015, 7:45:55 PM25 votes

Thanks for nerfing the only ADC i liked, when she was already garbage tier. well played riot.

Radical Penguin7/7/2015, 8:17:23 PM25 votes

She looks amazing MissFortune

Moonglow Nami7/7/2015, 6:31:00 PM23 votes

waterloo mf is a serious downgrade from the current one. her hair in this one looks very weird - why not just keep it free flowing like it's been and just upgrade the texture like the others? waterloo's the only one where her hair is up/tied back so it really sticks out and is just very unappealing tbh.

AhoyNATO7/7/2015, 9:07:02 PM21 votes

Please "nerf" MF back to having Grevious Wounds. I think the community would agree we all liked her before these "buffs". Well done Riot, you took an already less viable ADC and killed her.
