Kshaway3 votesAs far as I know, they are 2 separate champions that CAN be played with out the other. They probably just have added bonuses together, making it better if you DO play them together.
TwixBean3 votesYup, for example: Rakan the boy his E's range will be increased if he uses it on Xayah. And Xayah's W's ability effect will also affect Rakan if he is nearby, so they can be played seperatly but they will do better if they are together

In the original Lore Ahri was a fox transformed by a dying sorceress in pretty much the same way as Zyra was a plant transformed into a humanoid by eating a dying sorceress.

It specifically states in the new Vastayan story that there are Vastayans in both the Freljord and Shurima, they just aren't as common there.
"Over time, the offspring of these pairings settled into a variety of regions and therefore adopted diverse forms, from the winged humanoids of Ionia or the sporadically-limbed sandshufflers of Shurima, to the Freljordian scaled manatee with a look of perpetual discomfort on its face."

Tahm was designed as a top laner though and became a support just before his release because the playtest team started playing him support and loved it, but he was initially designed as a top laner, not a support.

From what I've seen on PBE, Xayah was balanced to use Crit specifically so she's a bit weak with lethality, all of her damage scales with crit. Rakan is pretty much only viable as a support, he has no wave clear or camp clear potential whatsoever, most of his power is synced into mobility and shielding/healing. He kinda reminds me of a mobile Taric almost in that he is almost entirely reliant on having an ally with him.

Rengar and Kha'Zix are a good parallel but choosing Rengar to Kha'Zix gives both a chance of a stronger snowball and less chance if either isn't played against the other. I don't see the advantage there is for the ally team to not pick one without the other except a synergy with another champion, but riot will automatically make the pair synergize well right?

They've already answered this on the stream but I'll paraphrase a bit for you: They set out with the intention of matching these two up kinda like Braum and Lucian or Kog'Maw and Lulu, they work amazingly well together and have some cool synergies but they specifically intended them to work well with other duo partners, for example Rakan is great with Kalista because she can throw him and Xayah is good with Thresh just from the gameplay that I have already seen. They want people to be able to main either champ in solo queue without being disappointed or screwed if they don't get their match to duo with, but to still be obviously stronger with that pairing compared to other pairings, for example Xayah and Rakan will be a better pairing than Xayah and Braum but Xayah and Braum will not be an inherently weak pairing it'll just have certain tradeoffs. I hope that answers your questions, so far I'm stoked about Rakan, I'm a support main and this is the kind of support I've been waiting for. lol
Halfrican82 votesDid any one else notice they have done of each others feathers on their shoulders? Xayan has Rakan's on her right and Rakan has a few on of Xayan's on his left, each opposite of of where they typically have their own feathers hanging.

Raiku Kawisa3 votesXayah has an ability that increases her movespeed if she hits a champ. If Rakan is nearby, he also gets that movespeed.
Rakan has an ability that lets him dash to a nearby ally, his dash range is increased if he is targetting Xayah.
EDIT: Oh! I almost forgot. If one is recalling, the other can join in on the recall. Yes, I'm pretty sure if the second one joins just before the recall is finished they get to head back almost instantly.

Potáto1 votesI like the idea of the two champions synergy, better then thresh kalista who have good synergy, but their kits are made for each other, literally. However, getting both through draft, especially past the pros 10 bans will make it hard for her to see competitive play. This makes me sad but by the rare chance they get past the bans (very unlikely) it will be fun to watch especially with their amazing design and kit. I also find it interesting how the mobility lies in the support since you don't see many mobile supports, especially that of the caliber of Rakan. Can't wait to practice these champs as a sup/adc main and hopefully be able to pick her on release in b4 the autolocks :c.

xayah is gonna be more of a jungle assassin adc than a actual adc and if rakan is in the game well believe they will show up in yr lane a lot
Hungry Cancer2 votesShe has to setup considerably to do much damage, so she won't be quite as roam heavy as say a twitch, she's really built to control a lane; kinda like Zyra if you move away from your zone of control you'll be at a disadvantage until you setup the feathers.
